Abstract

The purpose of this study is to propose strategies for social media-based promotion of university archives by investigating the current status and limitations of public relations activities and social media management of university archives. To this end, a literature review, social media content analysis, and in-depth interviews were conducted, and promoting the university archives was proposed in two aspects: content and management. The content aspect was divided into topic selection, content writing, and platform. When it comes to topic selection, first, the topic should encourage the participation of students based on their interests. Second, write a post that catches on trend periodically. Third, the proportion of posts on students’ daily lives should be increased. fourth, the freshmen should be provided with useful and practical information about the university. fifth, posts on oral interviews with alumni and activities of individual alumni or alumni associations can strengthen identity and solidarity among alumni. For content writing, tap into students by using mascots and characters, and everyday language familiar to students. YouTube and Instagram are suggested to be utilized as they are mainly used as of 2024 by university archives that manage social media. In terms of management, managing the student ambassador program, getting the idea from University Archives & Records Centers and related institutes, and securing manpower and budget with the support and cooperation of the parent organization are proposed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the current state of record-related regulations in Korean universities and suggest improvement measures. The research involved a three-step process: exploratory analysis of existing regulations, establishment of classification criteria, and comparative analysis with the National Archives’ guidelines. Data were gathered from 66 regulations across 63 universities. The findings reveal that many universities revised their regulations after 2020, often without clear standards, leading to inconsistencies. Notably, many private universities still lack proper record-related regulations. Discrepancies between the National Archives’ guidelines and university practices were identified. To address these issues, it is recommended that the National Archives incorporate feedback from universities in guideline revisions, universities enhance their record management by consulting experts and increasing personnel, and record management professionals report their institutional status and share best practices. Accurate terminology use is essential to avoid confusion.

Abstract

This study analyzed the number of electronic journal subscriptions, subscription fees, usage, cost-effectiveness, etc. of university libraries to identify limitations and problems. Based on this, a case library was selected and the simulation tools Unsub was used to compare the efficiency of package subscriptions and individual subscriptions and suggest improvement measures. In the case of C University Library, SAGE and Emerald were found to be cost-effective as package subscriptions, while ScienceDirect and OUP were found to be worth considering for individual subscriptions. In particular, OUP was found to save £6,063 per year with individual subscriptions, and the ratio of accessible and usable articles reached 85.8%. In addition, ScienceDirect was found to be the most effective model for combining individual subscriptions and pay-per-view systems, considering budget savings and ease of use. Based on the results of this case study, the limitations of Unsub’s application and policy tasks for developing a ‘K-Unsub’ version suitable for the Korean situation were suggested.

Abstract

This study addresses the limitations of the rigid and simplistic relational structure of the KDC 6th edition’s relative index by systematically analyzing the relationships between index terms. Based on this analysis, a flexible and detailed model for structuring the relationships within the relative index is proposed. The study categorizes these relationships into hierarchical, associative, and equivalence relationships, further subdividing them to capture the complexity of the interactions. The proposed model is implemented using RDF syntax, suggesting the potential for extending the relative index into linked data. This model not only clarifies the complex relationships between KDC index terms but also contributes to the development of a dynamic and adaptable classification system capable of effectively incorporating new information.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to propose the importance of responding to the increasing issues related to collection management surrounding school libraries by analyzing the status of collection management policies (CMP) at the school libraries. Accordingly, through literature research, the main contents of the composition of the CMP for children and adolescent users were analyzed. Based on this, a 50 questions questionnaire was conducted and analyzed on the status of the CMP and the composition of the contents of the CMP for 93 school library managers nationwide. As a result, first, the data used as the selecting collections priority selection criteria were curriculum-related and recommended book lists rather than CMP. Second, 31 out of 93 school libraries (33.3%) had with CMP. Third, the understanding and necessity of the CMP of the school library manager with the CMP were higher. Fourth, it was found that more than half of the components of the CMP did not include the renewal cycle, intellectual freedom, etc.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the current usage patterns of VR content among users and their demands for VR content services in libraries. An online survey was conducted, receiving responses from 229 individuals with experience using VR content. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) analysis revealed a good model fit, indicating that users’ perceptions of the usefulness and ease of use of VR content are significantly related to their satisfaction and intention to reuse VR content. These findings suggest that to enhance satisfaction with VR content services in libraries, it is essential to improve user convenience and create an immersive environment. Additionally, respondents indicated that VR content services could increase library user satisfaction and the intention to revisit the library. The most preferred VR content themes were games (action, strategy, etc.), travel, and space/ocean, in that order. While the overall feedback on providing VR content services in libraries was positive and filled with anticipation, some respondents expressed concerns about the potential lack of utility and the possibility of poor equipment management.

Abstract

This study aims to develop research data management guidelines for university-level research data management in the rapidly changing research environment of open science. To this end, we investigated the definition of open data, related policies, and examples of open science-related policies in Japan, and then examined the current status of research data management regulations in 65 universities in Japan. There are seven main components of research data management regulations in Japan, and 87.69% of researchers are considered to be the main entity that manages and owns research data, and the responsibilities of universities are analyzed as maintaining an environment to support research data management responsibilities. In addition, 84.62% of the 65 universities operate institutional repositories that support the uploading of research outputs, and only 20% provide research data management services through university libraries. Based on the results of the analysis, this study suggests implications for the establishment of research data management regulations that are the basis for research data management services performed by Korean university libraries in the evolving research environment.
