Abstract

Purpose - This paper aims to critically examine capital market developments in India before and after liberalization. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper examines the Indian capital market from its inception to the latest developments related to both primary and secondary markets, and also discusses recent initiatives of capital markets to enhance the expected level of services to the investor community. It also sheds light on the regulatory framework for investor protection. Results - The study further highlights the future roadmap for the radical development of the Indian capital market. The paper identifies the various initial obstacles and intricacies that affect the smooth functioning of the Indian capital markets. Hence, the paper articulates that these concerns should be addressed by the regulatory authorities and at the policy level at the earliest for further strengthening the capital markets in the interests of the economy in general and retail investors in particular. Conclusion - This is a topic of utmost contemporary importance to worldwide national economies, and calls for novel methods and techniques in dealing effectively with the menace facing capital markets.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship that is found to exist between the technology-based self-service convenience orientation factor and the factors of convenience and quality. Research design, data, and methodology - The questionnaire was developed by using the modified and supplementary questions that were examined in previous studies. We used the SPSS/PC 18.0 and lisrel 8.3 statistical packages to analyze the results of the research. For validating the research hypothesis and structural relationship of the research model, path analysis was used in this study. Results - The ease of use exerted a significant influence on the four dimensions. Information had a significant influence on transaction, benefit, and post-benefit convenience. Control had a significant influence on five dimensions. Conclusions - This study suggests that technology-based self-service convenience is classified into five multi-dimensional levels. Further, the study reveals that control, ease of use, and information are important variables in order to increase convenience. Therefore, for improving technology-based self-service convenience, it is important to improve the control, ease of use, and information variables.

Abstract

Purpose - This study intends to verify if the m-VALS developed to help the establishment of the mobile shopping vitalization strategy is classified as the same type as it is in the adult customers. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 84 valid copies of the questionnaire were used. Factor analysis was performed first, as well as performing reliability and validity analysis after deducing the factors, and the simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis techniques were employed. Results - The m-VALS needs verification through various groups and the delicateness of the questions needs to be ensured; further, for all the lifestyle types in relation to the mobile shopping acceptance incentives, all the remaining lifestyle types excepting the sociability-oriented type had a positive effect on consistent use intention. Conclusion - It is implied that the charm of the mobile shopping App should be enhanced and that, when establishing the mobile shopping mall with which the positive frequent and interactive communication is possible along with the opportunity to be together, the positive achievement can be obtained.

Abstract

Purpose - This study highlights the inter-dependence between business and society. Various business strategies like Corporate Philanthropy and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are introduced to establish better relationship between business and society. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - This study presents a research model clarifying the role of Creating Shared Value (CSV) and its influence on overall corporate performance. Further, we reveal the mediating role of corporate trust generated by various mechanisms of economic and social values, leading to enhanced corporate performance. Results - The proposed research model addresses five different proposals indicating that, by incorporating CSV approaches, organizations can create both business and social values. These values help positively influence corporate trust, ultimately facilitating improvements in overall corporate performance. Conclusions - CSV is currently in its early stage; it is difficult to gather meaningful data to measure its performance. However, this study seeks to connect CSV with other important factors such as corporate trust. The proposed model can be a starting point for a more empirical and formal conceptualization of CSV along with other important links.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to analyze the relationship between trends in innovative EU industries and market distribution in smaller emerging markets under an open economy. Research design, data, and methodology - Although innovation was well-distributed, due to socio-economic factors following European integration, CEE had not achieved sustainable economic growth. However, this paper analyzes the differences among changes in CEE innovation for smaller emerging markets dominated since 2000. Market distribution has facilitated new markets for innovative industries, according to EU surveys and economic indicators. Results - The dominance of the local industrial market distribution has deterred innovation investment the survey shows that innovation investment has been shrinking, despite the EU's open innovation policy for CEE employment and R&D. For the CEE case, there were expectation gaps and uncertainty about whether to use the new distribution dominance or TNCs' innovation in smaller emerging countries without local industrial innovation. Conclusions - Innovation generates market growth and distribution power however, small growth requires stimulation, and creativity and innovative edge need further focus in local public and corporate strategy.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to eradicate and halt the continuous life cycle of corruption. Only when ethical management policies are implemented can the business ethics system be effective and transparent. Research design, data, and methodology - The analyses and legislative measures designed by these organizations and countries were based on solid research, uncovered during my visits and interviews conducted with businessmen in those countries. Results - The main focus of in this study is as follows: First, to introduce the programs of UN, OECD, OAS, USA, and Asian countries noted for business ethics and transparency policies; Second, to define each function and problem of these countries' anti-corruption systems, including the U.S. federal government, and to examine Chinese trends. Conclusions - Ethical managements are necessary to improve business ethics. This study suggests four related areas for the purpose of discouraging bribery and corruption; these are improving global corporate governance standards, increasing financial transparency, improving good governance in the public service of the OECD member countries, and focusing on not only the supply side but also the demand side of the corruption market.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to identify the effect of corporate eco-friendly marketing, which focuses on corporate social responsibility, on the environment, natural preservation and protection, and environmental concern among consumers. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 92 valid questionnaires were used for analysis. A structured model was established and a 3-step mediated regression test was employed to see how consumers' perception of ethical consumer behavior and price sensitivity are influential in relation to the impact of consumer's perception of eco-friendliness on the using intention in relation to eco-friendly products. Results - Three factors of eco-friendly perception all have a positive impact on ethical consumer behavior, thus lowering their price sensitivity. In particular, it is found that environmental knowledge and environmental concern are important to promote ethical consumer behavior. Conclusion - It is found that, to increase the using intention of eco-friendly products, an enterprise should practice an eco-friendly marketing strategy, deliver eco-friendly related knowledge, and include contents to allow consumers to take an interest in the environment for effective performance of marketing.

Abstract

Purpose - This study analyzed how image affects customer trust and satisfaction in the online shopping mall market, which is becoming more competitive; future implications for customer management in online shopping malls were presented. Consumers visit and prefer a few shopping mall sites instead of many sites. Consumers do not visit sites that cannot provide trust and satisfaction. Therefore, establishing trust and satisfaction with differentiated image is essential for survival and growth. Specifically analyzing company image, shop image, and brand image, I studied how symbolic image, functional image, and empirical image affect satisfaction mediated by trust in the online shopping malls of hypermarket retailers. Research design, data, and methodology - To investigate the relationship between image and satisfaction of big box retailers' shopping malls in the online market, the study is based on analyzed data from questionnaires involving advanced research. From May 1st to 20th in the year 2014, a questionnaire survey targeting university students using big box retailers' shopping malls in Seoul was conducted. A total of 282 questionnaires were conducted, and 276 questionnaires were used for empirical analysis, excluding invalid data. Using the SPSS 21.0 statistics package, factor analysis and regression analysis were implemented, and effects of image on trust and satisfaction were presented. Results - First, symbolic image can affect satisfaction with only trust. Among 3 image factors, symbolic image exerts the most influence on trust; trust is important in coupling the medium to satisfaction. Second, functional image and empirical image affect satisfaction directly and indirectly with trust. Conclusions - As I classified the image of hyper market retailers' online shopping malls into symbolic, functional, and empirical image, I analyzed the effects of image on trust and satisfaction empirically. The results of the study and strategic implications are as follows. First, symbolic image can affect satisfaction with only trust. Among 3 image factors, symbolic image exerts the most influence on trust; trust is important in coupling the medium to satisfaction. The establishment of a distinctive symbolic image, such as the online shopping mall's loyalty, level of awareness, and special service, is needed. With the establishment of symbolic image, trust and satisfaction could be improved. Second, functional image and empirical image affect satisfaction directly and indirectly with trust. Especially, as functional image affects trust more than empirical image, setting and implementing a strategy for empirical image based on the right price, service, and convenience could raise trust and satisfaction. Empirical image affects trust and satisfaction substantially. Even though empirical image's influence on trust is lower than that of other three image factors, empirical image's influence on satisfaction is higher than symbolic image. Therefore, it requires a strategy for providing joyful use, and information research functions and distinctive use experience are important to improve satisfaction. This study analyzed image characteristics of hyper-market retailers' online shopping malls in the fast-growing online market; future strategic implications were presented.

Abstract

Purpose - This article aims to examine whether the stock issuance of firms in the retail industry follows Myers' (1984) pecking order theory, which is based on information asymmetry. According to the pecking order model, firms have a sequence of financing decisions, of which the first choice is to use retained earnings, the second one is to get into safe debt, the next involves risky debt, and the last involves finance with outside equity. Since the 2000s, the polarization of the LEs (Large enterprises) and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) arose in the retail industry. The LEs exhibited an improvement in growth and profitability, whereas SMEs had a tendency to degenerate. This study contributes to corroborating the features of financing decisions in the retail industry distinguished from the other industries. Research design, data, and methodology - This study considers the stocks listed on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets from 1991 to 2013, and is more concentrated on the stocks in the retail industry. The data were collected from the financial information company, WISEfn. The empirical analysis is conducted by employing two measures of net equity issues (and), which were introduced in Fama and French (2005), and can be calculated from firms' accounting information. All variables are generated as the aggregate value of the numerator divided by aggregate assets, which, in effect, treats the entire sample as a single firm. Substantially, the financing decisions of the firms were analyzed by examining how often and under what circumstances firms issue and repurchase equity. Then, this study compares the features of the retail industry with those of the other industries. Results - The proportion of sample firms that show annual net stock issues reaching the level of the year's average was 54.33% for the 1990s, and fell to 39.93% per year for the 2000s. In detail, the fraction of the small firms actually increases from 45.08% to 51.04%, whereas that of large firms shows a dramatic decline from 58.94% to 24.76%. Considering the fact that the large firms' rapid increase in growth after the 2000s may lead to an increase in equity issues, this result is rather surprising. Meanwhile, net stock repurchases of assets are considerably disproportionate between the large (-50.11%) and the small firms (-15.66%) for the 2000s. Conclusions - Stock issuance of retail firms is not in line with the traditional seasoned equity offering based on information asymmetry. The net stock issuance of the small firms in the retail industry can be interpreted as part of an effort to reorganize business and solicit new investment to resolve degenerating business performance. For large firms, on the other hand, the net repurchase can be regarded as part of an effort to rearrange business for efficiency and amplifying synergy across business sections through spin-off. These results can help the government establish a support policy on retail industry according to size.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to clarify through which process asset specificity and supplier development project (SDP) affect performance. Cooperation, partnership, the level of information exchange, and the importance of information sharing are considered significant variables as mediators related to the process. Finally, the performance formation model of the supply chain through asset specificity and supplier development project would be suggested as being a result of this study. Research design, data, and methodology - Data collection was as follows: questionnaires were distributed to 250 companies that have business ties with H Company. The empirical study to test our hypothesis was based on statistical analysis (using SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0). The hypothesis of this paper is that the asset specificity and supplier development project variables have positive effects on the following variables: mediators such as cooperation and partnership (reliability and dependence); and the cooperation and partnership variables have a positive effect on the following variables: level of information sharing, the importance of information sharing, and level of information sharing; the importance of information sharing has a positive effect on supply chain performance. We tested our hypothesized model utilizing path analysis with latent variables. Results - First, it was found that asset specificity has significant positive effects on cooperation (H1), reliability (H2), and dependability (H3). Second, it was proved that the level of comprehension on the purpose of SDP has positive effects significantly on cooperation (H4), reliability (H5), and dependability (H6). Third, the hypotheses related to cooperation were all significantly accepted. The relationships of cooperation with the level (H7) and importance (H8) of information sharing were significant. Fourth, the hypotheses related to reliability were all significantly accepted. The relationships of reliability with the level (H9) and importance (H10) of information sharing were significant. In terms of dependability, however, the hypotheses were partially accepted. The effect of dependability was significant on the importance of information sharing (H12), but insignificant on the level of information sharing (H11). Finally, the causal relationships from the level of information sharing to SCM performance (H13) and from the importance of information sharing to SCM performance (H14) were both significantly accepted. Conclusion - First, with rapid changes in the business environment, enterprises should acquire the right information to properly implement SCM. For successful SCM, firms should understand the supplier development project. Second, asset specificity and the level of comprehension on SDP have significant effects both on cooperation and partnership (reliability and dependability). Third, mediators such as cooperation, reliability, and dependability significantly affect the level and importance of information sharing. Fourth, the level and importance of information sharing have significant impacts on SCM performance. This paper makes a meaningful contribution to further the understanding of how SDP affects SCM performance. Finally, successful SCM performance is achieved by information sharing through a collaborative environment and partnership (confidence & dependence) rather than by investing only in setting up an information system.

Abstract

Purpose - The goals of this study are the following. First, this study focused on customer satisfaction of in-flight service. Specifically, in-flight duty free items were considered because of their potential value related with the differentiated strategy of airline companies. Second, this study analyzed feasible strategies that would fence off the aversive attitudes of consumers toward innovation regarding in-flight duty free items. Third, this study strived to discover implicit routes related with the reactions of of consumers to innovation. Fourth, the construal level theory was applied to the context of in-flight service. Psychological distance is expected to promote acceptance of innovation for duty free items. Research design, data, and methodology - This study consisted of three experiments. All data were collected through the participation of university students. First, the experiment employed a 2×2 between-subject design. The first independent variable was temporal distance (long vs. short of navigation time). The second independent variable was innovativeness (innovative duty free items vs. typical items). Further, experiment 2 involved a 2×2 between-subject design. The first independent variable was social distance (typical vs. atypical stewardess image). The second was innovativeness that was based on a pattern similar to that of the prior experiment. The third experiment involved a 2×2×2 design. The first and second independent variables were temporal distance and item innovation, respectively, based on the method of experiment 1. The third independent variable was cognitive depletion (depletion vs. control condition). Results - Experiment 1 demonstrated that the innovation of duty free items would need to consider the journey time of the airline. Specifically, innovative items were preferred in case of a long journey; typical items, however, were liked in a short journey. Further, experiment 2 demonstrated that, in spite of a short journey, innovative items would be preferred if an atypical stewardess was serving. An atypical stewardess was linked with social distance, and the psychological effects would activate a creative and flexible mindset that would fit with innovative duty free items. The final experiment was accomplished for the examination of cognitive processing of psychological distance on innovation-acceptance. Specifically, if the effects were related with systematic processing, then cognitive effort would be needed. In contrast, if they were related with heuristic processing, then such efforts would not be required. The same pattern appeared under both cognitive depletion and control condition; therefore, the effects of psychological distance were implied to be heuristic processing. Conclusions - Managers need to consider the navigation time, stewardess concepts, and depletion of consumers as important factors for innovative strategy regarding in-flight service. Longer journeys are more successful for innovative trials. Further, a more atypical stewardess image is more successful for atypical service. Long navigation and unfamiliar stewardesses may activate creative and flexible thinking. Further, cognitive depletion of consumers is not a dominant factor of psychological distance effects, because the effects are not related with systematic processing, but with heuristic processing.

Abstract

Purpose - Most studies related to emotional labor have been conducted in the low-contact service industry rather than the high-contact service industry. Since the subjects of this study were golf service assistants, working in an industry in which the interaction and contact between customers and employees are considerable and the degree of customization is high, this study is significant. Thus, we would like to focus on the relationship between the humor style of golf service assistants and emotional labor. Humor style was divided into two styles-adaptive humor and maladaptive humor. Emotional labor was divided into two dimensions-surface acting and deep acting. In addition, we identify the relationship between emotional labor, job satisfaction, and turnover intention. Research design, data, & methodology - This study focuses on the humor styles in the golf service industry, among golf service assistants, on their emotion labor, and verifies the relationship between emotion labor and work satisfaction or job turnover intention. Based on the outcome, a total of four hypotheses were set up. To verify the hypotheses, surveys were conducted on the golf service assistants working in two golf fields in the region of Busan as well as its neighboring area. A total of 250 copies of the questionnaire were distributed. Subsequently, a total of 227 valid questionnaire copies, after excluding improper responses, were used in the analysis. After verifying the reliability and feasibility of variances, Amos 18.0 was used to implement the structure method so as to verify the study hypotheses. As a result of this analysis, the suitability of the entire model was considerably appropriate to the standard value, and the level is adequate to accommodate the study model completely. Results - First, it was found that the adaptive humor of golf service assistants had a positive effect on deep acting and maladaptive humor had a positive effect on surface acting. Second, It was found that employees' satisfaction with their job was reduced through surface acting, and those employees who experienced positive emotional labor in the form of deep acting were more satisfied with their job. Third, surface acting among employees increased turnover intention, but deep acting reduced it. Finally, the relationship between job satisfaction and the turnover intention of golf service assistants in the golf service industry was examined. Conclusions - First, the adaptive humor of the golf assistants in the golf service industry had a positive effect on their expression behavior. Second, deep acting increased their job satisfaction while their surface acting had a noticeably negative effect on their job satisfaction. Third, the surface acting of the emotion labor dimensions that the golf service assistants experience increases their turnover intention while their deep acting decreases their turnover intention. Finally, when analyzing the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention of the golf service assistants, it was found that the turnover intention decreased when their job satisfaction is increased.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of the study is to reexamine the price fairness as practiced by low cost airlines, as a consumer has to experience such inconveniences as inferior airport transportation, extra fees on in-flight meals, and non-negotiable seats, and consumers evaluate such experiences keeping in mind their total costs. This evaluation includes price fairness and allows a reasonable and overall consideration of factors of low cost airlines. It tries to set up a measurement of the indicators consumers' perceptions of price fairness academically as it adapts price fairness to airline services which are renowned for price volatility. Research design, data, and methodology - The research proposes an alternative pricing strategy for the long term profit of low cost airlines after going over conflicts between the traditional theory of consumers' price perception mechanism and flexible fair policy of low cost airlines. It was meaningful when it relates to the early stage of the business, while it enhances the risks relating to the long term survival of low cost airlines. In addition, it is significant as it highlights the negative influences on consumers' perceptions of price fairness, as low cost airlines run on extremely low cost perspectives. Results - The results of the research provide insight into four perspectives, as consumers' perceptions of price fairness are influenced by the frequency and range of price changes and services. The first perspective is that it would lead to positive price evaluation when a low cost airline cuts prices frequently with little changes than one big change. It also would lead to the same result when it comes to necessary services. The second perspective is that one big increase of price would rather undermine the negative aspects of price changes than those of several smaller ones. The third perspective is that additional services would be good to consumers' perceptions of price fairness as compared to discount benefits with respect to the cost. Finally, a low cost airline should consider that consumers will change airlines or defer their flight schedule if the flight fares increase beyond their limits. Conclusions - Low cost airlines should reconsider their pricing policies for services that were provided free earlier. A consumer would not like discount benefits when made to pay for services that were, for long, free of charge. If a low cost airline can provide services with no charge, it should improve volumes if the costs are standardized and, moreover, should consider the charging fees. Alternatively, a consumer can choose between services and fair discount. Low cost airlines are implementing sales promotion strategies, as the competition is more intense than it used to be. In these days, they should regard services over sales promotion, as consumers may prefer to spend money on good premium services. Some differentiation in services could create a good market position for the airlines and, hence, good financial performance.
