Abstract

Purpose: Nutrition has a direct and substantial effect on the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recognizing the importance of adequate diet in strengthening school children's health, the relevant parties should take the initiative to introduce effective nutrition intervention programs. Malnutrition, in all conditions, hinders children's potential to survive and thrive. It has been challenging to demonstrate that enhancing nutrition and sustainability instruction in schools leads to healthier and more sustainable eating patterns. This scoping review is to discover the important drivers and emerging themes in nutritional health intervention distributions at schools toward the attainment of SDGs for school children's health. Data and methodology: A scoping review of the literature was conducted between 2007 and 2022 using the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. A total of 25 journal articles were identified for a full review. Results: Five themes were found from the literature relevant to the scenario surrounding pupils and food intake in schools. The data implied that nutrition intervention distributions, including food literacy, food consumption, good governance, and food entrepreneurship, might have a prominent impact on the behavioral and health outcomes of school children. Conclusions: Findings have emerged on the usefulness of nutrition intervention distributions at school in encouraging healthy diet intake among school children and consequently meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

Purpose: The paper contributes to the existing literature on Vietnamese corporate governance and firm performance with a focus on listed family firms and the use of a more suitable econometric framework to analyze firm performance. The study investigates how family firm performance is affected by corporate governance under the standpoint of stewardship theory in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: With the use of different measures for firm performance (Tobin's Q, ROA, and ROE), regression models were estimated using Generalized Least Square (GLS) method on a panel data of a total of 113 listed companies during the five-year period from 2015 to 2019. Results: We found that family ownership as the main characteristic of the stewardship theory affects family firms positively. In addition, several other characteristics in corporate governance as board composition (board independence, board audits, and board committees), CEO (age and tenure) and firm characteristics (size, age, expansion, and annual sales) showed significant impacts on firm performance. Our findings also suggest that family firm performance can be either positively or negatively affected based on the characteristics of corporate governance. The findings can help companies evaluate the significance of corporate governance through deciding board structure and the selection of CEOs to match family firm characteristics. It also gives insights for investors, rating agencies, and policymakers for relevant purposes.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of the study is to examine the role of approval goals, subjective norm, internal motivation, external motivation, attitude towards behavior, and perceived behavioral control on retail consumer's intention to consume fortified food in Pakistan. Research design, data, and methodology: The study was quantitative in nature. That is why the data were collected from 384 respondents approaching retail stores of Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad using mall intercept survey. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. Results: The results show that approval goals significantly influence subjective norms. Secondly, subjective norms positively influence internal and external motivation. Thirdly, attitude towards behavior and internal motivation significantly impacted on intention. However, the findings of the study show, non-significant relationship of external motivation and perceived behavioral control with intention to consume fortified food. Conclusion: Theory of reasoned goal pursuit was used to investigate consumer intention to consume fortified food in Pakistan. This study is helpful for the marketers to create a word-of-mouth strategy to enhance positive word of mouth for the company, which ultimately beneficial to develop the distribution strategy of the firm. Fortified food is full of health enriched ingredients which is beneficial for society at large.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of utilitarian value, hedonic value, channel integration quality on Omni-Channel Shopping Intention and shopper satisfaction in the e-commerce industry in Indonesia. Research design, data and methodology: This research method uses quantitative research methods with purposive sampling technique. The hypothesis was tested using SEM-PLS. Results: Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that there is an influence between the Utilitarian value on the Omni-channel shopping intention, there is no effect between the hedonic value on the Omni-channel shopping intention, there is no influence between the quality of Channel integration on the Omni-channel shopping intention, there is an influence between the quality of Channel integration and the Omni-channel shopping intention between utilitarian values on shopper satisfaction, there is no effect between hedonic values on shopper satisfaction, there is an influence between channel integration quality on shopper satisfaction, and there is an influence between Omni-channel shopping intentions on shopper satisfaction. Conclusions: The findings of this study prove that Omni-Channel Shopping Intention is one of the most effective management and marketing techniques to enhance an important aspect of their company, namely an efficient and holistic consumer shopping experience.

Abstract

Purpose: This study discusses the phenomenon of the uncertain sustainability of SMEs in developing countries. SMEs face various challenges in the dynamics of a competitive environment, which threaten their growth and sustainability. This study aims to address a research gap between company's internal resources, in the form of absorptive capacity, and its business performance. By using product quality as a mediator, which has never been studied before, this research presents a novelty to answer the existing research gap using the Resource Based Theory (RBT) perspective. Research design, data and methodology: Using quantitative method, data are collected from 164 respondents, who are owners or managers of furniture manufacturing SMEs in Gerbangkertosusila Area, East Java, Indonesia. The data are analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) - Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results: The findings show that absorptive capacity has a direct and significant effect on business performance and indirectly through product quality. Conclusion: Furniture manufacturing SMEs are advised to focus on developing absorptive capacity reflected in good product quality, in order to improve their business performance. This is especially important to survive the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the results of this study contribute to the development of RBT, and there are several suggestions for further research.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to identify and design a model for the integration between marketing and supply chain management (SCM) of technopreneurship-based souvenirs MSMEs to fulfil customer value creation. Research design, data and methodology: This research method uses the system development life cycle method. This study draws its insights and conclusions from a literature review in several fields followed by an interactive research approach that helps identify, validate, and implement a theoretical framework so that the modelling results can be adopted in applicative manner for souvenir MSMEs. Result: Implementing the "G-ASPOO-L" supply chain management integration model based on technopreneruship to fulfil value creation in the 5.0 society era created three perspectives: an inter-functional perspective, a process perspective, and an integrated business concept perspective. The supply chain management involves enterprise integration, strategic customer integration, strategic supplier integration, and marketing strategy integration. Conclusion: The proposed model framework leads to managerial problems of supply chain management strategy, which urgently requires an interaction approach that challenges the traditional view of demand creation and implementation of supply chain management to fulfil value creation. This research leverages existing knowledge and advances our understanding of the strategic integration issues companies face in digital-based competition.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to apply factors of successful online marketing strategy for food distribution SMEs and the effects of these successful strategies to achieve higher performances. Research design, data, and methodology: Questionnaires were used to collect data from 400 samples of SMEs in Thailand. We employed structural Equation Modeling techniques for data analysis. Results: The results revealed that distribution strategies directly affected the success of business operations, as follows: 1) Customer communication channels, product variety, preserved privacy, and personal service had direct positive effects on the distribution success in terms of financial perspective, customer perspective, internal process perspective, and earning and growth perspectives; 2) Ability to learn a competitor had a positive direct relationship with the distribution success in terms of financial perspective and learning and growth perspectives, excluding customer perspective and internal process perspective; and 3) Responses to market on time had a positive and direct influence on distribution success in terms of customer, internal process perspective and learning and growth perspectives excluding financial perspective. Conclusions: This research has made an essential contribution to SMEs that they should focus on and adopt these 6ODS+4BSC concepts as development guidelines for food distribution SMEs to be more efficient and effective.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the relationship between stock liquidity and skewness risk-tail risk (stock price crash risk) in an emerging market, in which problems on liquidity are more severe than in developed markets. Research design, data, and methodology: Based on the Thai market stock exchange over the period of 2000 to 2019, our sample include 13,462 firm-period observations. We employ a panel regression models regarding to five liquidity measures. These five liquidity measures cover three dimensions of liquidity namely the volume-based, price-based, and transaction cost-based measures for the liquidity-tail risk relationship. Results: We find a positively significant relationship between stock liquidity and tail risk in all cases. The finding here shows that the higher the stock liquidity, the larger the tail risk is. Conclusion: As the prior studies show inconclusive effect of stock liquidity on stock price crash risk, we demonstrate that mixed results found in prior studies are probably driven from the type of liquidity measure. The stock liquidity-tail risk association is present in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The results remain the same regardless of the definition of tail risk and liquidity factors. An endogeneity issue is addressed by employing the two-stage least squares regression.

Abstract

Purpose: Due to the rapid growth of e-commerce in Thailand, the operational excellence of distribution service providers has been elevated. Thus, this research investigated the key drivers of operational performance of e-commerce distributors in Thailand. The research contains key variables: the analytics capabilities of an organization, supply chain disruption orientation, innovation capability, and operational performance. Research design, data, and methodology: An online survey is administered to top managers and key personnel (N=425) employed for at least one year in Thailand's top five e-commerce distributors. The sampling methods were conducted using purposive sampling, quota sampling, and convenience sampling. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Model were applied to analyze and confirm the model's goodness-of-fit and hypothesis testing. Results: The findings reveal that an organization's analytics capabilities significantly affect supply chain disruption orientation and supply chain resilience. Furthermore, operational performance is affected by supply chain disruption, supplier quality management, and innovation capability. Nevertheless, supply chain resilience and digital supply chain have no significant effect on operational performance. Conclusions: The results imply that supply chain digitalization could drive higher operational performance. Distribution businesses are encountering transformation and disruption, which should address the high level of a digital supply chain, innovation, and quality management to maximize their profit margin and delivery service quality.

Abstract

Purpose: This study attempted to identify determinants affecting research collaboration and R&D distribution activities, especially regarding facility and equipment leasing of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea. The objective of this study was to find the most significant firm characteristics that affect firms participating in an R&D collaboration and distribution program and investing in R&D in terms of leasing payment for equipment. Research design, data, and methodology: This study analyzes which SMEs' characteristics influence external research cooperation activities by examining the SMEs that received government support for equipment leasing using multiple regression analysis and residual plots. The survey combined two databases: 1) a fact-finding survey of participating firms by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and 2) leasing information by the Korea Association of University, Research Institute and Industry. Results: The study found that firm size positively impacts R&D investment, R&D collaboration and distribution. Conclusions: The study provided evidence to policymakers and government officials that firms with more employees will more likely participate in government support programs. The study results also prove that government officials believe firm location does not impact R&D investment, R&D collaboration and distribution.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the rental determinants of a small shopping mall located in Seoul, Korea, and the characteristics of four commercial districts (CBD, GBD, YSD, etc.). Research design, data, and methodology: For the characteristics of the data, descriptive statistics and frequency analysis were used. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have been used as rental determinants for small shopping malls. The characteristics of 4 commercial districts were analyzed using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc analysis. Results: 1) CBD 14.8%, GBD 16.7%, YSD 13.0%, others 55.6%. 2) The order of important variables affecting rent: CBD=1> GBD=1> vacancy rate> rental index> number of buildings> YBD=1> average gross floor area> conversion rate> average floor. 3) Characteristics of commercial district: Rents in CBD and GBD are high. The conversion rate is high in the GBD commercial area. The number of buildings is high in the CBD. The average area of GBD is larger than that of other commercial districts. Conclusions: 1) Several factors should be considered when investing in or renting a small shopping mall. 2) Depending on the investment and business purpose, factors such as rent, conversion rate, building, and area average should be considered.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between earnings forecasts estimated from a cross-sectional earnings forecast model and firm characteristics such as firm size, sales volatility, and earnings volatility. Research design, data and methodology: The association between earnings forecasts and the aforementioned firm characteristics is examined using 214 firm-year observations with analyst following and 848 firm-year observations without analyst following for the period of 2011-2019. I estimate future earnings using a cross-sectional earnings forecast model, and then compare these model-based earnings forecasts with analysts' earnings forecasts in terms of forecast bias and forecast accuracy. The earnings forecast bias and accuracy are regressed on firm size, sales volatility, and earnings volatility. Results: For a sample with analyst following, I find that the model-based earnings forecasts are more accurate as the firm size is larger, whereas the analysts' earnings forecasts are less biased and more accurate as the firm size is larger. However, for a sample without analyst following, I find that the model-based earnings forecasts are more pessimistic and less accurate as firms' past earnings are more volatile. Conclusions: Although model-based earnings forecasts are useful for evaluating firms without analyst following, their accuracy depends on the firms' earnings volatility.
