이 논문은 김정근과 그의 동조자들이 주장하는 디지털도서관의 여러 가지 사상과 주장을 검토하고, 이를 단초로 삼아 우리나라에서 디지털도서관과 관련된 여러 가지 전개양상을 분석하고 있다. 그리고 그러한 전개양상을 토대로 현단계의 디지털도서관의 개발과 연구에 필요한 과제를 도출하게 된다. 주요한 논의는 디지털도서관의 기본요건, 디지털도서관의 운영체제에 관한 것들이다. 더불어, 디지털도서관을 체계적으로 연구개발하기 위한 토대로서 디지털도서관학의 설정을 제안하고 있다.

Abstract
The study reviews the digital library thoughts of Kim Jung-gun's and their fellows to discover the developmental aspects of digital library in Korea. And I present the challenges facing digital library's development and research. Discussed are important requisites and digital library framework, and so on. In addition, included are suggestions for establishment of digital librarianship as a foundation of research and development of digital library.
