본 연구는 영국의 상담 활동을 현장에서 상담을 제공하는 실천가를 중심으로 살펴본 것이다. 이러한 개관은 크게 네 가지 측면-영국 상담의 발달 과정 및 특징, 훈련 기관 및 과정, 상담 전문가 자격, 주요 상담 장면 및 활동 영역-에서 이루어졌다. 첫번째 장은 상담과 심리치료의 역사적 관계와 상담과 상담심리학을 대표하는 단체에 대한 논의를 통해 다루어졌으며, 두번째 장에서는 상담 훈련을 위한 과정을 기초, 고급, 전문 수준별로 소개하고 영국 상담협회에서 공인하는 훈련기관의 기준을 살펴보았다. 세번째 장에서는 영국에서 시행되고 있는 영국 상담협회의 전문가 기준과 영국 심리학회가 인정하는 상담심리학자의 기준을 소개하였으며 마지막 장에서는 영국 내에서 상담이 주로 실시되고 있는 다섯 분야, 즉 상담 단체, 교육 기관, 사설 개업, 의료 및 직장 영역의 활동을 소개하였다.
The present study was to introduce counselling activities focused on pratitioners in Btitain. The investigation covered four areas : developmental process and charateristics of counselling, the courses and institutions for counsellor training, the standard for professinal counsellor and main counselling setting in Britain. The first section discussed historical relation between counselling and psychotherapy and associations which represent counselling and counselling psychology each. The second section introduced general counselling courses in terms of introductory, advanced and professional and the Recognized Counsellor Training Courses by BAC (British Association for Counselling). The third section introduce the criteria for BAC and BPS(British Psychological Society) Accreditation. The last section introduced main counselling setting- counselling center, education, private pratice, medical and work areas.
