초록
도서관을 비롯한 지식정보관리기관의 경영에 정보기술의 도입은 도서관과 사서직의 정체성에 혼란을 주고 있다. 도서관의 발전이 더딘 우리 나라에서는 전통적인 도서관과 사서라는 명칭을 싫어하고 정보센터나 정보관리기관과 정보전문직으로 부르기를 희망하고 있다. 지금까지 사서직의 전문성 논의에서는 주로 무엇을 다루어 왔는지를 알아 보고 또한 전문직으로서의 지위와 대우를 받으려고 노력하는 현장 사서진은 전문성을 어떻게 이해하고 있는지를 고찰하고 있다.

Abstract
The introduction of information technology into the organizations managing knowledge and information which include libraries has caused some confusion to the identity of libraries and librarianship. The libraries and librarians in the societies whose library development lags behind like ours prefer being called information centers or information specialists to libraries and librarians. This paper traces what has been discussed for the professionalism of librarians and how librarians, who want to be treated properly in status as professionals, understand the professionalism.
