Librarianship as a Profession in Korea

이 연구는 한국 사서직의 전문성 제고를 위한 방안을 찾으려고 시도되었다. 외형적으로는 사서직이 전문직으로서의 형식을 갖추고 있으나, 내용적으로는 아직 부족한 부분이 많다. 오래 동안 논의되어 온 사서직 자격제도, 교육제도 등도 다시 고찰한다. 사서직의 이론적 토대가 되는 문헌정보학 연구와 사서들의 의지가 모이는 전문직 단체의 활동은 전문성 확보에 얼마나 기여하는지를 논의한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the strategies to improve the professionalism of librarianship in Korea. It is generally accepted that the conditions of librarianship as a profession have been formalized but lack in fulfilling the standards required to be recognized as a profession. This research tries to examine the qualifications of and the educational system for librarians. It also traces how the researches in the library and information science and activities of the library association and professional communities have contributed to the development of librarianship.
