본 연구에서는 부모의 공감에 대한 자녀의 지각의 차이를 알아보고자 하였다, 자녀양육에서 있어 아버지와 어머니의 역할이 서로 다르기 때문에 자녀와의 공감의 결정요인도 차이가 나타날 것이라고 가정하였다 아버지는 자녀와 이성적인 대화를 통해서 그의 역할을 수행하기 때문에 공감반옹도 '대화양식'에 따라 주로 결정될 것이라고 가정하였고, 반면 어머니는 애정표현이나 보살핌을 통해서 그의 역할을 수행하기 때문에 공감반옹도 주로 '돌봄수준'에 의해서 결정될 것이라고 가정하였다. 따라서 자녀들도 아버지와 어머니의 공감에 대하여 이와 같이 서로 다른 요인에 의해서 지각할 것이라고 가정하였다. 따라서 다음과 같은 가설을 설정하였다. 가설 I. 부모의 공감에 대한 자녀의 지각은 대화양식과 돌봄수준에 따라 차이가 있을 것이다, 가설 II. 부모의 공감에 대한 자녀의 지각에 영향을 미치는 요인이 아버지와 어머니에 따라 다를 것이다. 본 연구결과 <가설 1>과 <가설 2> 모두 지지되었다. ＜가설 1>의 지지는 대화양식과 돌봄수준이 공감수준에 영향을 미친다는 것을 의미하고, <가설 2>의 지지는 관계를 맺는 사람이 아버지냐 어머니이냐에 따라 공감수준을 결정하는 요인이 다르다는 것을 의미한다. 기존의 공감에 관한 선행연구들은 단순히 자녀양옥에서 공감이 지니는 효과에만 관심을 두어 공감의 효과연구에만 주로 초점을 둔 반면 공감의 효과보다는 공감이 형성하는 요인과 원인에 초점을 두었다. 따라서 본 연구는 대화양식과 돌봄수준을 통해 부모와 자식간의 공감에 미치는 요인을 밝혀내고, 부모의 공감에 대한 자녀의 지각이 서로 다른 요인에 의해 결정된다는 것을 경험적으로 검증하였다는 데 중요한 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
This study has tried to figure out the differences between the children's perception on the empathy of each parent. In case of fathers, they mostly play their role through rational communications with their children, so that this study was hypothesized their empathy will be determined by their communication type. However, in case of mothers, they play their role by their affection or caring, so that their empathy could be determined by their level of caring. Therefore, this study set up hypotheses as follows: Hypothesis I. Children's perception on the empathy of parents will be differentiated by the communication type and the level of caring. Prediction I-1. Children's perception on the empathy of parents will be higher with the person-oriented communication than with role-oriented communication. Prediction I-2. Children's perception on the empathy of parents is up to the degree of their parents' level of caring. Hypothesis II. The factor which influence children's perception on the empathy of their parents are different. Prediction II-1. In the relation between fathers and children, the communication type will be the main the factor in children's perception on the empathy of fathers. Prediction II-2. In the relation between mothers and children, the level of caring will be the main the factor in children's perception on the empathy of mothers. After the research, the result shows that both <Hypothesis I> and <Hypothesis II> are supported, the support of <Hypothesis I> means that the level of empathy is influencedby the communication type and the level of caring, and the support of <Hypothesis II> means that the factor of the level of empathy is different between fathers or mothers. The existing studies on empathy are simply focused on the effect of the empathy in bringing up, so that they have mostly been the studies on the effect of the empathy. But, this study focused on the factor and the cause more than the effect of the empathy. The significance of this study is that it showed the factor of the empathy between fathers and children through the communication type and the level of caring, and it tested empirically the fact that children's perception on the empathy of each parent are decided by each different factors.
