This study is a preliminary study to suggest an idea for the establishment of the Korean standard authority database system for Korean libraries. It analyzes in detail the current status of the mjor libraries in Korea operating authority system Because the authority work is very hard for a library to accomplish for its costs and efforts needed, it is desirable to establish and maintain the system through cooperative venture. It also investigates the problems to be followed and suggests the possible improvements for the system.

This study is intlded to ampre the effectiveness of the Northemlight and Google, which are based on Datamining kdmique with a Metacrawler, one of metasearch engines. As a result, searches responding to queries in the Northemlight and Google produced a higher precision and recall as comparrd with searches nspcdhg to queries in the metacrawler. The results show that the Datamining techniques can help improve information retrieval effectinveness.
