The aim of this study is to) represent the relationship of organizational commitment and its antecedent variable and show the influence of them in the libraries. For this, We selected librarian\`s personal characteristics, job characteristics, organizational characteristics and work experiences as an independent variables and value commitment, commitment to stay as a dependent variables. Collected data was derived from questionnaire of the 128 librarians of 17 public libraries at susan. 1)The women\`s level of commitment was higher than man. 2)Centralization was negative to the organizational commitment. 7)The rank that influence on the organizational commitment was work experience first, and then organizational characteristics, and job characteristics was the last.
During the ASEM(Asian-Europe Meeting) the president Kim Dae-jung have a conference with France president Jacques Chirac about the Waikyujanggak book restitution which the president Mitterand promised in 1993. The results of conference, equivalence of quality and quantity, have stirred up Korean public sentiment. The restitution of cultural asset is a very subtile problem in all of the country. The united Germany and from the Soviet Union dismantled Russia also have begun to discuss the library book restitution. These two countries had plundered library books each other during the World War II. To resolve the issue Germany and Russia are having several Round Table at governmental level and library expert level. However except Lituania and Georgia three are not many successful outcomes. This study based on the process of the book restitution the Germany and Russia being under way. Though our historical background is different from these two countries, we have a same problem.
United Nations Depository Library Systems is not yet well known to the Public. United Nations as an international organization founded on the basis of various cultures, ethnic groups and political & economical backgrounds, have complied all its policies and activities into various type of materials in written form from the beginning. These materials including laws, periodicals and monographs produced from UN\`s various activities have a great vale as library materials containing useful information. UN has distributed them throughout the designated libraries called UN Depository Libraries for the world users. So UN materials are available to users not only from the member countries but from the world. I the Republic of Korea several depository libraries have received a large quantity of UN materials since the 1990\`s. However, these materials have not been utilized well. Under thee circumstances, this study tries to present the ways to promote user\`s understanding of UN material and encourage them to use the valuable information more effectivity.
There were two purpose of this study. One was to develope a digital library as a way of facilitating students\` learning. The other was to design a model of a digital library for school. For this, current Korean educational information network plan and the problems of school libraries were analyzed first. Second, the role of school library was identified: to build a self-motivated learning environment in an information society and to help students developing creative learning abilities. Finally, a model of digital school library was suggested.
The origins, definition and research area of information economics are outlined in brief. For the better understanding and discussion of information economics, some important concept that require examination, such as information economy, resources, uncertainty and information value are reviewed in detail. Furthermore, a brief history of model and issues surrounding models are examined. In particular, some applications of models related to social sciences have been investigated since these models hold tremendous potential as diagnostic and test tools in the practical and theoretical work of library and information science.
This study attempts to identify use of information technology In university libraries and to analyze the relationship between utilization of information technology and organizational culture of university libraries. A questionnaire developed through literature review is used to survey staff in university libraries. In conclusion, utilization of information technology by librarian and rational goal model of culture have negative relation and two variables are correlated at .05 significant level.
This study measured whether web-based library user education represent web-based instruction theories in education. 9 criteria used were course-related instruction, collaborative learning, evaluation of tutorials, education of information retrieval, contents tables, multimedia interaction between users and librarians, navigational aids, variation of menus. The result showed that both contents and design of web sites were important for good web-based library user education.
Recently, knowledge and information are recognized as resources which contain important economic, social and individual values. This study investigates a concept of information society, an economic viewpoint of information and informationalism sharing of information. As a result, various plans are suggested such as information policy, recovery of inherent value of information dissolution of information gap and social movement for information sharing.
This paper aims to improve the KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources. In this study, therefore, at first the characteristics and kinds of electronic resources were examined as the backgrounds. Then the cataloging rules (AACR2R NCR1994, ISBD(ER) and KORMARC Descriptive Rule) and the MARC formats (MARC21, OCLC-MARC and KORMARC) were analyzed. Finally, the improvements of KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources were suggested.
The reading camp program for mutual reading activities between reader`s advisers and readers which has been played four times in 2000 shows the reaction to reading activities among them as follows. <TEX>$\circled1$</TEX> All of reader`s advisers and readers took an active part in the reading camp program and reader's advisers were more active. <TEX>$\circled2$</TEX> All of participants of the reading camp was satisfied by all of the reading program and especially leaders were affected by daily life of reader`s advisers. <TEX>$\circled3$</TEX> All of participants had an opportunity of reflections on his reading activities and leader`s advisers established their sense of life and sense of values in more affirmative. The reading camp program helped participant to enhance his reading life very much and yet reader`s advisers acquired something more than readers did especially.
Library and information science(LIS) research, as reflected in its own disciplinary and professional history, has been ignorant of the transitions and developments of other humanities and social science disciplines. For instance, the positivistic perspectives in research have been maintained in the field while other disciplines have been experimenting wide variety of research methods and aspects. This paper attempts to articulate that LIS research should play an appropriate role in analyzing and investigating various key-words in modern knowledge society. In this regard it scrutinizes the applicability and implications of discourse analysis. It specifically surveys the historical background of the development of LIS research; then it explains the dimensions of discourse analysis and some principles; and, finally it shows some examples of research projects that emp1oy these perspectives.
This paper seeks to know a out the 'University and College Archives', which are to be established under the provision of 'the Law on the Management of the Institutions', and briefly mention the relation with the library, looking into the concept and backgrounds of archives. The enactment of the law became the ground to establish but there is no practical guidelines on the structure, formation, management, and contents of archives, even worse, people do not know well what the archives is. Therefore, I think so know about academic archives should start understanding basic concept, meaning, and necessities of the archives. In Europe, university archives have been established from 1830s, after the other archives had been established. In America, universities, which had been grown owe to the rapid economic development and the increasing of high educated people, began to establish their archives as a way to invest to improve their being and promote continuing growth. This is to prove their being and value in the society by collecting and preserving records and documents produced in the development of universities. Therefore, university archives can be said that it is the receiving agency for the producers of the university records, researching functional purpose, contents of university records, and relation with other institutions or records. This is the very difference from university libraries as collecting agencies. Nevertheless, university libraries and archives can help each other to activate their functions and improve their positions in universities through cooperating for the policy of digital records preserving and approaching them because the tendency of informationization forces universities to stand on various information resources to serve for routine university works. Each institutions of universities needs archival records due to various reasons. It is especially necessary to preserve and manage archival records to prove the confidence of records.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how and which meta tags are used, which meta tags are used frequently, and what relationships there are between retrieval of WWW documents and meta tags. For the study, 1,000 WWW documents were selected and examined from OCLC NetFirst. The total of 92 meta tags was discovered and "description" and "keywords"meta tags were analyzed intensively. In addition, analysis of WWW documents showed that there are no significant relationships in meta tag usages between documents retrieved at the beginning and documents retrieved at the end. Comparative study between general internet search engines and commercial DBs such as NetFirst is suggested as a further study.
This study is to suggest a classification system to classify the military information resources on the internet. In the first part, it compares LCC\`s Class U(military Science) and Class V(Naval Science) with Yahoo! Korea\`s web site classification system(Home/Government/Military). The second part compares the classes of Yahoo! Korea with those of Simmani search engine and Yahoo! US. Based on this comparative analysis, it proposes a classificatory system for the military information resources on the internet.
The study suggests information processing model and discusses variety of information due to change and expansion of text, comparies information service in cyberspace and reality and presents reference interview in on - line service.
This study examines the concept of contents and contents management. This study, then, analyses contents management systems in terms of contents creation, storage and service. Finally, it suggests some recommendations for implementing contents management systems. The suggestions of the study can be used for implementing effective Web content management in the future.
