Abstract

This article intends to locate the logical basis to apply bibliotherapy as a library service in Korean libraries. To the end, investigated and discussed are the historical relationship between bibliotherapy and RAS(readers' advisory service), and the theoretical base and practical experiences that enabled bibliotherapy to be practical in the U.S. library community. This article introduces a concept of ‘therapeutic' RAS as a similar concept to ‘developmental' bibliotherapy, and suggests the roles of a librarian as a therapist, based on the “Zones of Intervention" by Carol Kuhlthau.
