본 연구는 한국인들이 성별에 따라, 연령집단에 따라, 개인주의/집단주의 성향에 따라 상담에 대해 어떠한 태도를 가지고 있는지를 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 연구를 위해 198명의 일반성인, 150명의 대학생, 193명의 중, 고등학생들이 연구에 참여하였으며, 이들의 상담에 대한 태도는 Fisher와 Turner(1975)의 상담태도에 관한 질문지로 측정되었고, 개인주의/집단주의 성향은 Singelis와 Triandis(1995)가 개발한 개인주의-집단주의 질문지로 측정되었다, 연구결과 여자가 남자들에 비해, 그리고 연령이 높은 집단일수록 상담에 대해 전반적으로 긍정적인 태도를 갖고 있는 것으로 보고하였다. 수직적 개인주의와 오점수용 정도는 역상관을 보였으며, 집단주의와 전문가에 대한 신뢰도 점수는 정적상관관계를 보였다.
The present study investigated Koreans' attitudes toward seeking professionals according to gender, age, and the level of individualism/collectivism. Research participants were 198 community sample, 150 college students, and 193 adolescents. They filled out the Attitude Toward Seeking Professional Help Scale(Fisher & Turner, 1975) and The Scale of Individualism-Collectivism(Singelis & Triandis, 1995). Results indicated that women and adolescents showed more positive attitudes toward seeking professional help than their counterparts, The positive relationship found between the level of collectivism and the score of trust toward professionals. However, there was negative relationship found between the level of vertical individualism and the score of stigma tolerance related to mental illness.
