본 연구에서는 초등학교 6학년 아동들을 대상으로 정서지능의 성차 및 지역간의 차이를 검토하고, 아울러 정서지능과 사회적 능력 및 대인문제해결력과의 관계를 알아보았다. 본 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정서지능검사 결과를 남녀별로 비교해 보면 전반적으로 여아의 점수가 높으나 정서표현에 있어서만 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었을 뿐 (p<.05) 전체적으로는 차이가 나지 않았고 정서지능의 지역간 차는 유의미한 상관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 정서지능은 사회적 능력과 전체적으로 유의미한 상관(r=.648)이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 정서지능 총점과 사회적 능력의 하위 영역도 모두 .584 - .499의 정적 상관을 나타내고 있다. 그리고 사회적 능력에 대하여 정서지능은 41.9%의 설명력을 지니고 있다. 셋째, 정서지능은 대인문제해결력과 유의미한 상관(r=.338)이 있는 것으로 나타났는데 특히 정서지능과는 대안적해결사고(r=.338)보다 수단목적사고(r=.401)와의 상관이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 대안적 해결사고를 긍정적 해결사고와 부정적 해결사고로 나누어 그 상관을 살펴보았을 때는 사회적으로 바람직하다고 인정되는 긍정적 해결사고와는 유의미한 상관(r=.302)을 나타내었고 부정적 해결사고와는 거의 상관이 없거나 부적인 관계에 가까운 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 정서지능이 개인의 사회생활과 대인관계의 형성과 유지 및 갈등해결에 중요한 영향을 미친다는 것을 시사해 주는 것이다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among Emotional Intelligence, Social Competence and Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving of the elementary school children. The subjects of this study were 178 elementary school children of 6th grade in Pusan and Yangsan city. In this study, Emotional Intelligence Test(Moon, 1997), Social Competence Test(Park, 1998) and Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving Test(ICPS, Park, 1987) were used. The results of this study were as follows: 1. There seemed to be no difference in Emotional Intelligence with respect to sex and region. 2. There was high and significant correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Social Competence. To investigate the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Social Competence, the data was analyzed by multiple regression analysis. All the subcategories of Social Competence were influenced by positive optimism of Emotional Intelligence factor. 3. There was significant correlation between Emotional Intelligence and ICPS. Emotional Intelligence is more closely related to Means-end Thought than to Alternative Solution Thought. Concludingly, since Emotional Intelligence is highly correlated to Social Competence and Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving, systematic development of programs for improving Emotional Intelligence are required and various studies are needed.
