Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relations of the stage of group development, the l counseling outcome, and the summary of group session focusing the group members' verbal response style in unstructured group counseling of counselor trainees. HIM(Hill Interaction Matrix) was used for the verbal response style and Curative Factor Questionnaire was used for the counseling outcome. The results of this study were as follows. First, the section 3 verbal response(member centeredㆍpre-work oriented) and section 4 verbal response(member centeredㆍwork oriented) of HIM were appeared a lot from the beginning of the group development. Second, no obvious differences were found in the verbal response style among the group members who showed the difference of the counseling outcome. Third, the summary of group session had the close relation with the verbal response style and it made the group members induce the therapeutic verbal response. Based upon these results, counselor trainees who were sensitive to the therapeutic and desirable verbal response style had the tendency to use the section 4 verbal response from the beginning of group development. It was suggested that the therapeutic verbal response can be induced by the summary of group session. The difference in counseling outcome of group members was not obvious and the objective tool to analyze the summary of group session was not used, but it was discussed that the summary of group session had an large effect on group process.
