수치심은 전체자기(entire self)가 문제시되는 경험으로, 자기애 장애, 중독, 섭식, 사회불안 등 다양한 심리장애의 핵심역동으로 간주된다. 본 연구에서는 수치심을 상태척도로 측정할 것인가, 특질척도로 측정할 것인가의 문제를 논의하고, 특질수치심 척도 가운데 하나인 ‘내면화된 수치심 척도(Internalized Shame Scale: Cook: ISS, 2001)’의 요인구조를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 대학생과 대학원생 346명을 대상으로 내면화된 수치심 척도(ISS)와 애착 척도(The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment: IPPA-R), 과민성 자기애 척도(Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale: HSNS), 사회적/정서적 성인외로움 척도 단축판(Short form of the Social & Emotional Lonliness Scale for Adult: SELSA-S)을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료 가운데 ISS에 대해 요인분석을 실시한 결과 부적절감, 공허, 자기처벌, 실수불안 등 4개 하위요인을 확인했다. 이 중 부적절감 요인이 ISS로 측정한 수치심을 설명하는 데 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 이어 ISS로 측정한 수치심이 어머니 애착, 과민성 자기애, 가족/친구/연애관계에서의 외로움과 가지는 관계를 보기 위해서 상관 및 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 검증 결과 ISS로 측정한 수치심은, 어머니 애착과 유의미한 부적 상관을 나타내고, 자기애 및 외로움과는 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 상담 실제에서 수치심의 치료 개입에 대한 제언과 본 연구의 한계에 대해서 논의하였다.
In the first part of the present study we discussed what is the better way to assess individual's shame-proneness, by trait shame scale or state shame scale. The factor analysis of Internalized Shame Scale(Cook, 1994), trait shame scale, was analyzed to identify four different factors: inadequacy, emptiness, self punishment and fear of mistake. The second part of the study we explored the relationships among shame, maternal attachment, hypersensitive narcissism and loneliness. Participants were 339 college students(197 male and 141 female) aged 18 to 29 completed the Internalized Shame Scale(ISS), The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment(IPPA-R), Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale(HSNS) and Short Form of the Social & Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults(SELSA-S). Results revealed shame was correlated negatively with maternal attachment and positively with hypertensive narcissism and loneliness. These results were consistent with previous findings. The implications and limitations of the present study were discussed.
