본 연구에서는 상담경력과 상담자소진과의 관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 한국과 미국의 상담자들 총 488명(한국 192명, 미국 296명)을 대상으로 상담자소진척도(CBI; Counselor Burnout Inventory) 5개의 하위척도들과 상담자들이 보고한 상담경력간의 관계를 보다 면밀히 분석하였다. 두 변인간의 관계를 선형적 관계 뿐만 아니라 곡선형(curvilinear)관계로도 함께 고려해 분석한 결과, 두개의 소진 하위변인들(한국: 내담자 가치저하; 미국: 비협조적 직무환경)에서는 선형모형의 경우 유의한 상관관계가 존재하지 않았으나, 곡선형 모형에서는 경력변인과의 통계적 유의성이 존재하였다. 즉, 이들 변인에서는 선형 모형에 비해 곡선형 모형에서의 모형적합도가 더 높게 나타났다. 이는 상담자소진과 관련된 변인을 연구할 때, 비선형적인 통계적 모형 접근의 필요성을 보여주는 결과이다.
This study examined the relationship between years of counseling experience and counselors' burnout. Specifically, 488 professional counselors in Korea and America (192 Koreans, 296 Americans), were surveyed. The relationship between years of counseling experience as reported by the participants and five subscales of the Counselor Burnout Inventory (CBI) was analyzed using curvilinear relations as well as linear relations models. While there was no significant correlation in the linear model for the two burnout subscales (Korean counselors: Devaluing Client; America: Negative Work Environment), statistical significance was found to exist between the two variables in the curvilinear model. For these variables, the curvilinear model's goodness of fit was better than that of the linear model. This result indicates that there is a need for a multi-dimensional statistical model approach when examining variables associated with the issue of counselors' burnout.
