The Relationship Between Clinging, Dysfunctional Problem Solving, Mindfulness and Suicidal Ideation

Abstract

This study was undertaken to examine the relationship between clinging, dysfunctional problem solving, mindfulness and suicidal ideation. This study hypothesized that clinging plays a role as a mediating variable between dysfunctional problem solving and suicidal ideation, as opposed to dysfunctional problem solving directly affecting suicidal ideation. It was also hypothesized that clinging plays a role as a mediating variable between mindfulness and suicidal ideation. The result of this study showed that clinging plays a role as a mediating variable not only between dysfunctional problem solving and suicidal ideation but also between mindfulness and suicidal ideation. In both cases, a complete mediating model, not a partial mediating model, was selected. The results support the hypothesis that clinging might be an important variable closely related to suicide.
