본 연구는 남한에 장기 거주하는 북한이탈주민의 정신건강 예측요인을 알아보기 위해서 실시되었다. 이를 위해서 남한 거주기간이 평균 7년 이상 되는 탈북 주민 106명을 대상으로 우울 및 불안 수준, 인구사회학적 변인, 개인적 변인, 외상 및 스트레스 변인을 측정하여 관련 변인들의 영향력을 분석하였다. 그 결과 혼자 거주하는 사람들이 가족이나 이성친구와 동거하는 사람보다 우울 및 불안수준이 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 남한에서 교육 받은 경험이 없는 사람들, 북한에서 결혼한 경험이 있는 사람들이 그렇지 않은 사람보다 우울수준이 높았고, 여성이 남성보다 불안수준이 유의하게 높았다. 건강이 좋지 않은 것, 문화적응 스트레스가 높은 것, 남한에서 교육을 받은 경험이 없는 것이 우울을 예측하였고, 건강이 좋지 않은 것, 북한 내에서 외상을 많이 경험한 것이 불안을 예측하였다. 이러한 연구결과가 탈북 주민의 적응 및 치료적 개입, 정신건강 증진 프로그램에 시사하는 바를 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate predictors of mental health of North Korean defectors who have resided in South Korea for over 7 years. This survey was conducted on 106 North Korean defectors. The results indicated that the level of depression and anxiety of those living alone was higher than those living with family or friends. The anxiety level was higher in women than men. The poor health and the higher acculturation stress level, no education in South Korea predicted higher level of depression. The poor health and the higher level of psychological trauma experienced in North Korea predicted higher level of anxiety.
