Abstract

This study aims to examine the current state of e-book services provided by public libraries and develop strategies to enhance these services by analyzing user needs. The study focused on users of the Gyeonggido Cyber Library to understand their perceptions of the library’s e-book services, utilizing the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method. The quality of e-book services was analyzed in terms of the e-book system, content quality, and personalized curation. The results revealed that fundamental yet crucial elements of e-book services include having an up-to-date collection, providing useful information, and offering book curation and customized services. Based on these attributes, libraries should prioritize the acquisition of new titles, strengthen user support services, and encourage e-book usage through initiatives such as librarian-recommended reading lists and related programs. Additionally, personalized book curation services deserve particular attention. As generative AI and other advanced technologies continue to evolve, book curation services are becoming indispensable for addressing rapidly changing user needs and competing with external information services. This study emphasizes that expanding e-book services through curated recommendations is a critical factor in meeting these challenges. By identifying the core and priority factors for e-book utilization, this research provides a valuable framework for strategies to promote the effective use of e-book services.
