진로의사결정에서의 타협과정은 진로영역 이론의 발달 초기부터 진로의사결정 과정의 중요한 요소로 연구되어 오고 있다. 본 연구는 진로상담 영역에서 이루어진 타협과정과 관련된 지금까지의 연구들을 진로상담 실제와 관련하여 검토하고 논의하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 국내의 진로상담 현실과 기존의 연구를 중심으로 진로의사결정에서의 타협과정의 중요성을 알아보고, 타협과정의 원리를 살펴보았다. 진로의사결정에서의 타협과정을 최초로 체계화한 Gottfredson의 이론을 중심으로 활성화되었던 타협과정에 관한 여러 경험적 연구들의 결과를 검토하면서, 현재의 연구동향 및 앞으로의 연구방향을 예측해 보았다, 마지막으로 본 연구가 진로상담 실제에 주는 시사점을 정리해 봄으로써 상담학이 추구하는 상담연구와 상담실제를 접목시키는 과학자-임상가 모델(scientist-practitioner model)을 구현해 보고자 하였다.
Compromise has been recognized as an important component in the career decision making process for a long time. This article reviewed the major literatures that are related to the compromise process in career counseling. This article consists of the following parts: the salience of compromise process in career decision making; developmental perspective on the compromise process; Gottfredson's principles of compromise; empirical findings on the process of compromise in previous researches; possible explanations on the mixed findings; and the implications of this study for the researches and practices in the area of career counseling.
