본 연구는 빈곤층의 심리적 특성을 알아보기 위하여 자활후견기관에서 진행 중인 자활사업 참여자 267명과 일반직장인 105명에게 SCL-90-R와 자존감 척도 등의 심리검사를 실시하여 자료를 분석하였다. SCL-90-R 척도를 사용하여 빈곤층을 군집분석한 결과 2개의 군집이 이루어졌다. 군집 1은 다소 정신과적 증상을 가지고 있는 집단이며 빈곤층의 약 26%가 해당되었다. 군집 2는 정상 집단으로 볼 수 있는 집단으로 나머지 74%이다. 상관분석결과 빈곤층에서의 자존감은 SCL-90-R의 정신증, 공포불안, 대인예민성, 우울, 불안, 적대감, 강박증, 그리고 전체 심도지수와 부적 상관을 가지고 있었다. 군집 1 집단에서는 자존감이 SCL-90-R 척도의 정신증, 우울, 그리고 전체 심도지수와 부적 상관을 가지고 있었다. 군집 2에서는 자존감과 유의한 상관을 가지고 있는 SCL-90-R 척도는 발견되지 않았다. 연구결과 대부분의 빈곤층은 일반인에 비하여 자존감이 낮았으며, 신체화, 우울, 공포불안, 그리고 전체 심도지수의 점수가 유의하게 높았다. 이러한 연구 결과는 자활사업에 참여하고 있는 빈곤층에게 적극적 심리치료개입이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.
This study was conducted to identify the psychological characteristics of the indigent population who are welfare recipients undergoing training for self-support care. two hundred sixty seven welfare recipients and one hundred five non-welfare recipients completed the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and the self-esteem scale. The mean T score of the SCL-90-R of the indigent population were analyzed to identify differences and characteristics among the 2 groups with similar SCL-90-R. The group was divided in two. Group 1, consisting of 26% of the total group, exhibited mental problems. Group 2, consisting of the remaining 74%, exhibited no mental problems. Low self-esteem was correlated with psychoticism, phobic anxiety, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, obsessive compulsive and global severity index in SCL-90-R of the indigent population. The results showed that welfare recipients had low self-esteem and higher scores in somatization, depression, phobic anxiety, and global severity index than non-welfare recipients in the SCL-90-R. The results concluded that there is a need for active psychological intervention for the indigent population.
