본 연구에서는 완벽주의의 순기능⋅역기능적 차원을 보다 명확하게 구분할 수 있는 변인을 상정할 필요성을 제기하고, 이러한 변인으로 ‘비합리적 신념’을 상정하였다. 비합리적 신념을 완벽주의와 함께 고려함으로서, 완벽주의의 역기능적인 측면 뿐 아니라, 순기능적인 측면을 보다 분명하게 이해할 수 있을 것이라고 보고, 이를 확인하고자 하였다. 이에 청소년 504명을 대상으로 하여 비합리적 신념에 따라 정서 및 성취목표가 어떻게 달라지는지 살펴보았다. 연구결과, 첫째, 비합리적 신념은 완벽주의 및 부정정서 및 수행접근 목표, 수행회피목표와 관련되었으며, 특히 개인적 기준 완벽주의 보다 실수에 대한 염려 완벽주의와 더 밀접하게 관련되었다. 둘째, 비합리적 신념의 정도가 높을수록, 완벽주의 성향이 강한 청소년들은 긍정정서와의 관련성이 적어지고 부정정서와의 관련성이 높아졌다. 마지막으로, 비합리적 신념의 정도가 높은 것이 완벽주의 성향이 강한 청소년들의 성취목표 설정에 있어서도 부정적 영향을 미칠 수 있지만, 개인적 기준 완벽주의 성향이 강한 청소년들은 비합리적 신념이 높은 경우에도 성취목표를 설정함에 있어서 긍정적일 수 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과들이 갖는 시사점 및 제한점에 관한 논의가 있었다.
This study proposed the need of finding the variable which can discriminate the positive and negative subscale of perfectionism more clearly. We suggested that we could explain the positive functions as well as negative functions of perfectionism with a consideration of irrational beliefs along with perfectionism in the adolescent population. Five hundred and four adolescents participated in the study. The results were as follows; First, the results showed that irrational beliefs were closely correlated to negative functions of the perfectionism. Specifically, irrational beliefs were significantly related with the subscale of concerns over mistakes. Second, those with higher levels of perfectionism showed more negative emotion according to irrational beliefs partially. Finally, higher levels of perfectionism were shown to be negatively related to the achievement goals according to irrational beliefs' levels. But 'personal standards' of perfectionism were positively related to the achievement goals in spite of the high levels of irrational beliefs. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
