본 연구의 목적은 성인도래기 청년들이 대학에서 직장으로의 이행과정에서 어떤 주관적 경험을 하는지 심층적으로 분석하는데 있다. 이를 위해 전국 대학교 4학년 이상 재학생 및 휴학생 15명을 성별, 전공, 지역 등의 특성이 고루 포함될 수 있도록 이론적 표본추출을 실시하여 심층면담을 진행하였다. 자료는 Van Kaam(1969)이 제안한 분석 방법을 적용하여 의미 있는 진술문을 추출하고, 이를 공통된 속성으로 묶는 범주화 작업을 통해 부주제, 주제, 범주로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 최종적으로 1125개의 의미 있는 진술문이 추출되었으며, 61개의 부주제, 19개의 주제, 5개의 범주가 도출되었다. 범주는 ‘이행과업을 인식하고 헤쳐나감’, ‘이행과정 중 부정적 경험으로 인한 내적 고통’, ‘사회지원에 대한 요구와 기대가 충족되지 못함’, ‘이행과업에의 미성숙한 태도가 나타남’, ‘이행을 준비하며 기존 자원과 여건상에 새로운 어려움이 발생함’순의 빈도로 나타났다. 즉, 대학에서 직장으로의 이행 경험 속에는 어려움에 대한 다양한 방식의 대처 행동, 부정적 정서와 태도의 심화, 사회구조와 시스템으로 인한 어려움, 어려움 속에서도 미래에 대한 희망과 기대감을 가지며 성장하고자 하는 욕구 등의 경험이 혼재되어 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 의의와 제언 및 제한점을 제시하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how emerging adults experience the college to work transition. In-depth interviews were carried out with 15 undergraduates selected by theoretical sampling, and data was analyzed utilizing the phenomenological research method of Van Kaam (1969). As a result, 1125 significant statements, 61 subthemes, 19 themes, and 5 categories were constructed. The five categories, listed in order of highest frequency, are as follows: recognize the transition and get through it, inner suffering due to the negative experience, unfulfilled needs for social support, Maladaptive reaction to the transition, and new difficulties in terms of resource and circumstance. These results indicate that emerging adults have mixed experiences during the transition as evidenced by their utilization of various coping strategies, varying negative emotions and attitudes, fluctuating social structure difficulties, and inconsistent levels of hopefulness and desire to grow. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
