본 연구의 목적은 윤리적 딜레마 행동에 대한 국내 상담자들의 인식과 경험에 대한 실태조사를 통해, 상담자의 윤리적 행동을 위해 추가적인 논의나 교육이 필요한 부분이 무엇인지를 확인하는 것이었다. 이를 위해 Neukrug와 Milliken(2011)의 연구에서 활용된 설문을 수정/번안하여 국내 공식 자격증을 가진 상담자 252명을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 시행하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 73개 문항 중 90% 이상 ‘합의된 의견’을 보인 문항은 12개, 75% 이상 90% 미만인 ‘대체로 합의된’ 문항의 수는 38개, 마지막으로 반대 의견이 25% 이상 50% 미만 존재하는 ‘불일치’ 문항들은 23개로 나타났다. 둘째, 비윤리적이라고 인식하면서도 절반 이상의 상담자들이 실제 경험한 적이 있다고 응답한 네 개의 항목들을 확인하였다. 셋째, 상대적으로 상담경력이 적은 2급 소지자 또는 석사 이하의 학력을 가진 상담자가 더 엄격한 윤리적 인식을 지닌 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, Neukrug와 Milliken(2011)의 연구와 비교한 결과, 6개의 문항을 제외한 대부분의 문항에서 양국 응답자의 윤리적 인식이 유사하게 나타났다. 마지막으로 한국 상담자 윤리 교육에 대한 시사점을 제언하고 본 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 기술하였다.
The purpose of this study was to explore South Korean counselors’ perceptions of ethical behaviors in counseling, and to identify the areas in need of further training. Participants, 252 counselors, completed the 73-item online survey of counselor’s ethical behavior, which was translated from the Neukrug and Milliken (2011) ethical behaviors survey. The results identified 11 items that 90% of participants endorsed as ethical/unethical, 38 items for which they showed a fair of amount of agreement (75% - 90%), and 23 items on which participants showed relative disagreement (25% - 75%). In addition, four items that were perceived as unethical, but that more than half of the counselors had personally experienced, were identified. Additionally, the counselors with relatively little counseling experience had stricter ethical perceptions. Finally, the ethical perceptions of South Korean respondents were similar to those of US respondents on most items. Recommendations for enhancing counselor ethics education are discussed.
