본 연구에서는 한국인들이 지각하는 상담전문가, 간호사, 사회복지사, 성직자, 정신건강의학과 전문의사, 점술가 및 민속신앙 종사원의 자격요건, 17개 문제영역에 대한 전문성과 도움추구의도를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 국내에 거주하는 한국 국적(귀화자 제외)의 성인 남녀 500명을 대상으로 자료를 수집한 후, 기술통계분석을 실시하였고, 다차원척도분석을 통해 6개 직업 간의 유사성을 인지도로 시각화하였다. 그 결과, 상담전문가의 자격요건은 6개 직업 중에서 희소성은 2위, 지식수준, 훈련수준, 교육수준은 3위로 나타났고, 자격요건에서 간호사와 유사한 직업으로 인식되는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 상담전문가는 17개 영역 중 진로선택에서 가장 전문성을 가진 직업으로 인식됐고, 나머지 영역에서는 정신건강의학과 전문의사 다음으로 전문성을 갖춘 직업으로 인식되거나, 정신건강의학과 전문의사와 간호사 다음으로 전문성을 갖춘 직업으로 인식되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 전문성에서는 다른 직업에 비해 성직자와 상대적으로 가장 유사한 직업으로 인식되었다. 상담전문가에 대한 도움추구의도와 관련해서는 2개 영역(음주, 열등감)을 제외한 15개 영역에서 가장 높은 것으로 나타났고, 정신건강의학과 전문의사와 도움추구의도에서 유사한 직업으로 인식되는 것으로 확인되었다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점, 그리고 추후 연구를 위한 제안을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine Koreans’ attitudes toward professional counselors, nurses, social workers, priests, and fortune-tellers in terms of job qualifications and expertise, as well as their intention to seek help for 17 problems. After collecting data from 500 adults, we conducted preliminary analyses and derived a concept map from multidimensional scaling. As a result, professional counselors were ranked second for scarcity and third for knowledge, training, and education levels. According to the Concept map for job qualifications, participants perceived similarities between professional counselors and nurses. In terms of expertise, professional counselors were ranked second after psychiatrists or third after nurses on all 17 problems except career choice. However, the concept map for expertise showed that participants perceived similarities between professional counselors and priests. Regarding intention to seek help, professional counselors were ranked first in most problem areas, with the exception of alcohol problems and inferiority.
