The Effects of COVID-19 Stress on SNS Addiction Proneness in Women in Their 20s and 30s: Moderated Mediating Effects on Stress Coping Styles through Fear of Missing Out

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderated mediating effect of stress coping styles through Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on the relationship between COVID-19 stress and SNS addiction proneness. 208 women in their 20s to 30s participated in the study. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and SPSS Macro. The results were as follows. First, FoMO had a significant full mediating effect on the relationship between COVID-19 stress and SNS addiction proneness. Second, hopeful thinking had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between COVID-19 stress and FoMO. Third, hopeful thinking had a moderating mediating effect on the relationship between COVID-19 stress, FoMO, and SNS addiction proneness. Based on the findings, the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
