Western society has depreciated the Middle Ages as the 'Darkness'. However, if Islam, which led the medieval millennium, had not spread paper and art of papermaking, and Arabic translations to the Western countries, translating and interpreting Arabic manuscripts into Greek and Latin, Gutenberg's printing press, Reformation, and Renaissance could not take place. They were not destructors of ancient knowledge and civilization, but were the protagonists of restoration and resurrection. The base camp is the Mosque and Islamic library(the House of Wisdom), which was referred to as a Muslim community. This study traced Islamic libraries that emerged in the process of establishing the Islamic dynasties and controlling Arabian Peninsula, Africa, Iberian Peninsula. For this purpose, the Islamic library was divided into the caliph library led by the royal families, the public library attached to the mosques, and the private library established by the viziers and scholars, etc. Then, the researcher analyzed history and development, roles and functions, impact and Importance on human civilization, and stagnation and decline, focusing on major libraries that existed in the Islamic cities of Damascus, Mecca, Baghdad, Aleppo, Cordoba, Cairo, Fes, Tunis, etc.
In order to ascertain disciplinary differences in publication patterns that can help improve assessment of research performance in Korea, we analyzed the bibliometric data of six disciplines from Korea Citation Index. Results showed differences in research size, competitiveness, productivity, impact, and collaboration among disciplines. Disciplines in science were the largest in terms of author and institution followed by humanities and social science, but humanities produced the most publications per author, followed by social science and science disciplines. Sociology publications received most citation per paper but humanities received most citations per author, which was greatly influenced by the number of co-authors per paper. Distribution of author counts per paper varied widely across disciplines. Humanities were dominated by single-author publications, whereas the majority of publications in sciences were co-authored. The study also highlighted differences in citation lag time and illustrated differences in distribution and impact of core authors and institutions across disciplines.

With high interest in linked data, there are various attempts to accommodate the linked data model in cataloging process. This study intends to discuss how to adopt and make the best use of linked data based bibliographic framework in order to improve the quality of library catalogs and to enhance library services in Korean libraries. To the end, this study focuses on (1) discussion of the meaning of linked data from the library cataloging perspective, (2) tracking best practices for implementing and operating linked data among North American and Europe libraries and bibliographic networks (in detail, constructing various types of ontology, developing linked data model including BIBFRAME and OCLC linked model, and improving retrieval service and interface), and finally (3) exploring problems and the anticipated challenges to transition to the linked data model in Korea. The data for discussion were collected from literature review and case study.
This study is to analyze the characteristics of 2019 revised RDA and suggest the consideration in aspects of cataloging using the literature reviews. The following 3 things are suggested with analyzing the revised RDA. First, high quality data such as supplementing cataloging data and constructing vocabulary encoding schemes should be needed to transform bibliographic data to linked data for the semantic web. Second, MARC should be expanded to accept the new conept of LRM and linked data being reflected in revised RDA because MARC is the unique encoding format untile linked data will be transformed from MARC data. Third, the policy statement and the application profile are needed for describing resource consistently because each entity and element has own condition and option, and there are different elements for applying rules in revised RDA. Based on this study, the RDA related researches should be in progress such as exapanding BIBFRAME as well as MARC to accept the new concepts in revised RDA, and, also, reflecting and accepting RDA being able to use revised RDA rules and registries in libraries and nations that have been faced to revise their own cataloging rules.

This study is to suggest the revitalization plan of the medical school libraries in the future, on the basis of analysis for the overall operation situation of the medical school libraries among the medical libraries. So based on the website, it is divided into 1) whether independent homepage exists, 2) service target, 3) books, 4) classification system, 5) manpower, 6) facilities (area, number of seats available), 7) equipment (pc, printer, copy machine, etc.), 8) services, and then analyzed. Consequently, as the ways to revitalize the medical libraries, firstly, it is necessary to establish legal standards and develop guidelines for the medical school library's books, sizes, librarians, etc. Secondly, establishing a cooperative community network between medical school libraries is necessary. Thirdly, policies such as support at the national level, specialization education of librarians, development of operational guidelines, and activation of inter-library networks are needed to revitalize the medical school libraries. It is also expected that research on the actual situation of the medical libraries should be conducted at the national level or at the level of the association of medical libraries.

The purpose of this study is to find a better way for placement of teacher librarians after the revision of the Enforcement Decree of School Libraries Promotion Act. To do this, the literature research is applied for reviewing the policy and current status regarding the placement of school librarians. The Ministry of Education announced its willingness to secure the number of job openings for librarian teachers through the midium and long-term plan in the 3rd School Library Promotion Basic Plan. It is analyzed that 323 new teacher librarians need to be recruited every year, after estimating the demand for recruitment of teacher librarians by 2030, considering the 3rd school library promotion basic plan. Schools in Gyeonggi Province and Daegu with no school library personnel exclusively in charge of libraries have been allocated with temporary teacher librarians, as an attempt to comply with the legal obligation to place exclusive staff for libraries, faced with practical challenges of recruiting new teacher librarians in a limited amount of time. But survey through questionnaire method shows only 69 out of 122 survey participants, which account for 56.6%, have proper teacher librarian licences. According to the analysis of teacher librarianship status, only 146 people were trained in 2019. As a result, the field demand for librarian teachers surged, but it was found that the conditions for training excellent librarian teachers have not been provided. Therefore, it is necessary to actively prepare a way to secure a certain level of qualification holders with the qualifications of excellent teacher librarians.
In the rapidly changing information environment, users' information needs are diversified, and the necessity for libraries to provide customized curation services away from traditional services is increasing. Although the Second University Library Promotion Plan (2019~2023) mentions user-centered customized services, it is difficult to implement customized curation services in the current university library situation. Therefore, this study examined the theory and case of gamification applied to various fields inside and outside the library to apply gamification to the library, suggested MDA+ and found the junction with library curation service, and built gamification-based curation service prototype for job roadmap in university library. Finally, implications were drawn through verification of field experts.
Based on the current status of use of L-Commerce installed in the Yongsan Public Library and Mapo Lifelong Learning Center, this study suggested the direction of spatial design for the public library's makerspace with L-Commons model. To this end, we investigated the literature research on library makerspaces and the case studies of makerspaces installed in 25 public libraries in Korea and 18 public libraries in the US. And In-depth interviews and user surveys were conducted. The public library makerspace presented through this study should be an open space where everyone in the community can easily enter, break down barriers between all classes in the region, and lead to smooth communication. Second, it should be a learning, cooperation, and creative space where resources can be shared and cooperation for creative activities and projects can be carried out. Third, it should be a creative workspace where community members can turn ideas into physical things that anyone can't do elsewhere or work on something interesting.
