Abstract

In this study, we propose a plan to reflect LRM in various library-related standards or systems through analyzing the reflection of LRM in RDA. To this end, LRM and RDA 2020 were analyzed in terms of entities, relationships, attributes, and encoding schemes. First of all, for the mapping of entities, relationships, and attributes, all properties and relationships were extracted for each entity of RDA, LRM elements corresponding to each property and relationship were found and mapped, and encoding schemes were additionally compared. As a result, the things to consider in the standards and systems to which LRM is to be applied are: first, entities development considering the LRM hierarchy; second, new relation or shortcut path relation development; third, attributes expansion according to the entities considering the LRM hierarchical structure, and fourth, the development of various encoding scheme. Through this study, it will be possible to find an application plan using the application of RDA as a model in standards or systems to accept LRM.

Abstract

The library tour program is a new type of cultural program that was first introduced and operated by J City, and library tourists travel to specialized libraries in the city according to a set course and experience various experiences. This study aims to build a customized course recommendation model that considers the characteristics of individual participants in addition to the existing fixed group travel format so that more users can enjoy the opportunity to participate in library tours. To this end, the characteristics of library travelers were categorized to establish traveler personas, and library evaluation items and evaluation criteria were established accordingly. We selected 22 libraries targeted by the library travel program and measured library data through actual visits. Based on the collected data, we derived the characteristics of suitable libraries and developed a persona-based library tour course recommendation model using a decision tree algorithm. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed recommendation model, we build a mobile application mockup, and conducted user evaluations with actual library users to identify satisfaction and improvements to the developed model.

Abstract

The purpose of all public libraries is to provide knowledge and information services for the intellectual and reading activities of local residents, program services that provide opportunities for cultural enjoyment and lifelong learning, and third-party spaces and facilities that contribute to the development of the community. To this end, social needs must be reflected in a timely manner with the establishment of a sound infrastructure as a prerequisite. This study analyzed the current status centered on key indicators of the public libraries in Daegu City and presented policy issues that need to be improved through a survey. The key indicators in Daegu City, compared to the national average, were not only significantly weak for the 3rd largest city but also showed considerable variation among local governments. While Daegu citizens valued public libraries in their daily lives, the dissatisfaction rate was high in the order of transportation inconvenience, lack of necessary materials and desired programs, and various regulations. Therefore, Daegu City should focus on increasing the acquisition budget, strengthening the development of new book collections, expanding the number of librarians, expanding the construction of public libraries to address service disparities among local governments, improving accessibility, and addressing factors that hinder usage. In addition, with the establishment and operation of the Daegu Library in 2024, efforts should be made to establish an operational system for public libraries, expand the scope through collaborative partnerships with other knowledge and cultural institutions, and enhance knowledge and cultural services for the Daegu citizen.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to survey the process in which the curriculum standards of ‘library and information life’ are implemented as textbooks and to find implications for improving of textbook publication. In the development process of accredited textbooks, it is essential for the curriculum standards and textbooks to align, both in form and content. 󰡔Library and Information Life󰡕(2011) are recognized textbooks systematically developed based on curriculum standards. To this end, the level of response to the numbers of ‘topic’ in the curriculum standard and the numbers of ‘midle unit’ in the textbook was identified. As a result, elementary and middle school textbooks exhibited a “one-to-many” response level, where one topic spanned approximately around two middle units, while high school textbook tended to have a “many-to-one” response level, converging two topics into one middle unit. In the case of elementary schools, the curriculum standard follows a single content-system, whereas textbooks are developed separately for lower and higher-grade levels. Therefore, some adjustments, such as curriculum content and subject titles, need to be considered for each elementary school level.

Abstract

A data repository is being used as a tool for sharing and preserving research data. This study was conducted to investigate the current status of data repositories and to propose methods for obtaining Coretrustseal certification. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the current status of data repositories in the field of Geoscience was investigated at re3data.org, and 10 best practices that obtained Coretrustseal certification were analyzed among the repositories. First, as a result of identifying the current status of repositories, the United States, Germany, and Canada accounted for 66% of the total repositories by country, and in the case of CTS certification, the proportion of the United States, Europe, and Germany was 58%. Next, as a way to secure CTS certification, necessary details and requirements in terms of data policy, organizational infrastructure, and technical infrastructure were presented. It is hoped that the results of this study will be helpful in establishing and operating domestic data repositories and obtaining CTS certification.

Abstract

With the arrival of the knowledge information society, records as assets have become increasingly important. As defined in ISO 30300, records must be actively utilized to contribute to organizational management and generate added value. To create added value through records, their utilization must be prioritized. While countries like the UK, New Zealand, and Australia recognize records as assets and propose record assetization policies, specific measures for managing records as assets have yet to be suggested. To address this gap, we analyze Directive (EU) 2019/1024, established by the EU, to facilitate commercial use and promote accessible public information. We derive seven characteristics from the analysis and extract insights from Italian policies and actual implementation cases that reflect them in accordance with the regulations of the EU guidelines. In addition, the correlation between the Public Data Act and the Public Records Act in Korea was revealed, and points that could reflect Directive (EU) 2019/1024 in Korea were derived. Through this study, it is expected that public data will be treated as information assets and serve as a stepping stone for preparing information assetization policies for records.

Abstract

This study analyzed the effectiveness of visiting reading programs for vulnerable children, focusing on the case of libraries in A-si, Gyeonggi-do. Library A utilized a visiting teacher to deliver books that matched the children’s levels and interests through non-face-to-face interactions, or to engage in face-to-face reading sessions and deliver books together. In 2022, a total of 158 individuals from 103 families participated in the program, with 103 individuals from 67 families delivering books and 55 individuals from 36 families engaging in book reading activities. Pre- and post-project surveys were conducted to assess the reading effects, and interviews were conducted with the visiting teachers. The analysis revealed that the level and interest of the children during book delivery and reading sessions were identified, and the effects of reading books with high levels of interaction were significant. Infants who were able to easily acquire reading experiences according to their age exhibited better reading effects compared to elementary school students. The program aimed at the new participant group showed slightly greater effectiveness than the group of continuing participants. Furthermore, following the implementation of the program, improvements were observed in reading interest, reading attitude, reading environment, reading interaction, self-esteem, social skills, language ability, reading proficiency, self-directed learning ability, and library utilization rate.

Abstract

Due to the rapid advancement of information technology and changes in the reading environment, the readers’ advisory services provided by public libraries are facing challenges and opportunities. Recognizing the need for public libraries to respond and propel their services forward, this study analyzed the current status of online readers’ advisory services offered by public libraries in Korea and discusses areas that require improvement. To achieve this, the study analyzed the online readers’ advisory services in 50 public libraries located in Seoul and six metropolitan cities (Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju, Busan, and Ulsan) across seven categories. These categories encompass various aspects, such as announcing reading programs and new books, identifying and addressing reader needs, developing content by librarians, generating content by readers, providing guidance on external reading information, connecting with professional book review databases and online websites, and utilizing social media services. Through this analysis, the study identified areas for improvement to enhance online readers’ advisory services in public libraries and ultimately improve reader satisfaction. It suggested enhancing activities such as librarians’ book recommendations and reviews for individual readers, reader participation, and interaction.
