Overview of psychotherapy case formulation method

Abstract

Psychotherapy case formulation is a kind of assessment or hyphothesis that is helpful for accurate understanding of clients and adequate treatment plans in early phase of counseling process. Currently, core conflictual relationship theme method and plan formulation method are being introduced but other methods are still not well known in Korea. In addition to several psychodynamic case formulation methods, this study attempts to briefly overview characteristics and differences in formulation methods as well as formulation steps suggested by other approaches. Case formulation methods introduced in this study were configurational analysis, interpersonal case formulation which uses structural analysis of social behavior, cognitive-behavioral and behavioral approaches and process-experiential therapy based on phenomenological theory.
