본 연구는 과도한 스트레스를 경험하고 있는 집단의 특성을 이해하고자, 스트레스 상황에 놓여있는 장애인 부양자 집단과 그렇지 않은 일반 집단 간에 (a) 종교 성향, 종교적 대처, 낙관성, 불안의 정도를 비교하였으며, (b) 변인들 간의 관계를 비교하였고, (c) 종교 성향이 불안에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 종교적 대처와 낙관성의 매개 역할에 차이가 있는지 알아보았다. 총 294명(장애인 부양자 집단 147명, 일반 집단 147명)이 본 연구에 참여하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 장애인 부양자 집단은 일반 집단보다 외재적 성향과 부정적 종교적 대처방식, 불안이 유의미하게 높았고, 낙관성은 유의미하게 낮았다. 둘째, 장애인 부양자 집단의 경우 일반집단과는 달리 외재적 종교 성향과 다른 변인들 간의 관계는 유의미하지 않았다. 셋째, 내재적 종교 성향과 불안의 관계에서, 장애인 부양자 집단의 경우에는 부정적 종교적 대처와 긍정적 종교적 대처 그리고 낙관성이 매개 역할을 하였으며, 일반 집단에서는 종교적 대처 중 부정적 대처, 그리고 낙관성이 매개 역할 하였다. 본 연구가 추후 연구 및 상담 실제에 주는 의의에 대해 논의하였다.
This study compared the care-givers of handicapped people with normal groups in religious orientation, religious coping, anxiety, and optimism in order to understand the difficulties faced by people suffering heavy stress. The participants were 294 Christians (147 care-givers, 147 normal group). The results of analyses indicated that, (a) care-givers had more extrinsic religious orientation, negative religious coping, anxiety, but less optimism than the normal group, (b) in contrast to the normal group's results, extrinsic religious orientation was not correlated with other variables for care-givers, (c) for care-givers, both positive and negative religious coping and optimism mediated between intrinsic religious orientation and anxiety, (d) for the normal group, negative religious coping and optimism mediated between them.
