본 연구는 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니가 자신과 친밀한 관계에서 벗어나 거리두기를 시도하는 자녀와의 관계에서 겪을 수 있는 어머니의 경험에 관심을 가지고 시작되어 다음과 같은 연구 목적을 갖는다. 첫째, 인구통계학적 변인 각각에 따라 어머니의 분리불안에 차이가 있는지. 둘째, 어머니의 대상 신뢰가 자녀와의 분화 수준에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 어머니의 분리불안과 문제형 의사소통이 매개효과를 보이는지 확인해보고자 하였다. 즉, 거리두기를 시도하는 자녀를 향한 어머니의 분리불안 감정과 불안감정을 극복해보려는 어머니의 인지적 책략이 반영되는 의사소통 방식이 어머니가 어릴 적 경험한 대상 신뢰 수준이 청소년 자녀와의 분화 수준에 미치는 영향에 매개효과를 가지는지 확인해보고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위해 중․고등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니 390명을 대상으로 질문지를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 국외 연구와 달리, 중학생 자녀 보다 고등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 불안 수준이 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 어머니의 대상 신뢰가 자녀와의 분화 수준에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 분리불안과 문제형 의사소통의 매개효과가 나타났다.
This study was to investigate whether a maternal separation anxiety differs across demographic variables and to examine if the maternal separation anxiety and the problem communication show a mediating effect on the relationship between the maternal object trust and the differentiation level or not. In order to scrutinize mean differences in a maternal separation anxiety and the mediation effects, the responses of 390 mothers having adolescents in middle and high schools were analyzed by an analysis of variance and a structural equation modeling, respectively. In conclusion, mothers having a high school adolescent showed higher anxiety than those having a middle school adolescent. Additionally, the maternal separation anxiety and the problem communication exhibited a mediating effect on the relationship between the maternal object trust and the differentiation level. Implications and limitations of the current study are discussed.
