Validation of the Korean Version of the Meaning-making Scale (K-MMS)

Abstract

The current study aimed to validate the Korean version of the Meaning-making Scale (K-MMS) and to examine the concurrent and discriminant validity of the meaning-making scale with other scales: The Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the Purpose in Life Test, the Life Orientation Test-Revised, and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. A total of 300 participants (134 females, 166 males) participated in the current study, and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to examine the model fit of the scale. Although the original meaning-making scale consisted of seven items, a total of six items were finalized for the Korean version of the meaning-making scale after deleting one item based on the statistical and judgmental criteria for scale purification. Finally, concurrent and discriminant validity was evaluated with the other scales. Implications for practice and suggestions for future research are discussed.
