본 연구에서는 한국군에서 발생하는 자살을 예방하기 위한 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하고자 했다. 한국군 자살예방 프로그램은 커뮤니티 전체 시스템 접근(Community Whole System Approach)을 바탕으로 한 포괄적인 자살예방 프로그램으로, 한국군의 구조적 특성과 군에서 발생하는 자살의 특징적 양상, 자살예방에 참여할 구성원의 특징을 반영하여 개발되었다. 본 연구에서는 전체 프로그램 중 자살예방 기본과정과 간부과정 프로그램의 효과를 검증하고자 했다. 자살예방 기본과정은 자살에 대한 지식과 태도, 자살의 경고신호에 대한 식별 및 대처방법을 포함하고 있으며, 자살예방 간부과정은 자살위험성 평가와 보고, 리더의 역할 및 시스템 수준에서의 개입 방안을 포함하고 있다. 연구대상은 육군 6개 중대의 군인 283명이었다. 자살예방 프로그램에 참여한 집단에서는 자살예방 관련지식에 대한 자기평가, 자살에 대한 지식, 게이트키퍼 행동에서 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 간부과정 프로그램의 효과검증 결과, 자살관련태도, 지식, 및 행동에 관련된 변인들에서 평가시기에 따른 집단 간 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 군대에서의 역할에 따른 프로그램 효과의 차이검증 결과에서는 자살예방 관련질문 빈도와 자살관련지식에 대한 자기평가에서 역할에 따른 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속연구의 필요성을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the efficacy of the suicide prevention program for Korean military based on the community whole-system approach. The basic program for suicide prevention includes knowledge and attitude to suicide, awareness of warning signs, and, handling methods for suicide whereas the advanced program for officers contains evaluations and reports of the likelihood of committing suicides, behaviors as a leader, and prevention at the system level. The program was implemented in 6 companies, 283 soldiers of the Korean Army. Those participating the prevention programs showed significant improvement in self-evaluation of knowledge, knowledge of suicide, and gatekeeper behaviors in the comparison of those not participating the program. When the two experimental groups, one of them receiving the advanced programs were compared, there was no significant difference in all outcome variables. Finally, the limitations of the current study and the need for a further study are discussed.
