A Structural Analysis of Career Calling and Life Satisfaction of Undergraduate Students -Testing the Mediating Effects of the Career Choice Commitment and Academic Major Satisfaction-

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify mediating effect of career choice commitment and academic major satisfaction on the association between career calling and life satisfaction. For this, a total of 272 undergraduates were asked to complete the questionnaires measuring career calling, career choice commitment, academic major satisfaction, and life satisfaction. The data were analyzed using AMOS 18.0 and SPSS 21.0. The main findings from structural equation modeling are as follows. First, career calling showed direct effects on life satisfaction. Second, there were partial mediation effects of career choice commitment and academic major satisfaction on the relation between career calling and life satisfaction. And the indirect effect was significant. These findings contribute to the understanding of the path between career calling and life satisfaction and highlight the important role of career choice commitment and academic major satisfaction. Also implications for counseling practice are discussed and future research suggested.
