This Study is to analyze the effect that the subordinate factors which compose transformational leadership and transaction leadership, cause stress syndrome. The results of this study are as follows ① There were no relationships between the stress syndrome and the term of service ;however, the level of stress among librarians tended towards fairly high level ② The charisma and the individualized consideration of transformational leadership showed negative(-) effects on stress syndrome. ③ The management-by-exception of transaction leadership showed positive(+) relationship with stress syndrome, and the contingent reward, negative(-)relationship. ④ The effect causing stress was greater in transformational leadership than in transaction leadership. Therefore, it was confirmed that the charisma and the individualized consideration of transformational leadership were variables decreasing stress, and the management-by-exception of transaction leadership was a variable increasing stress.
This study aims to find methods to improve the scientific literacy of the youth, which comprise the group who will lead the upcoming era of knowledge and science. To do this, the study focuses on improving the youth's understanding of science and their ability to utilize it. It is widely recognized that scientific literacy is highly essential in this era of scientific revolution and innovations. Accordingly, various kinds of programs are being developed in Korea and other countries. In particular, ‘Project 2061' is designed to enable a permanent learning system by improving problem-solving ability through the scientific process. This system plays an important role in supporting the Americans' pursuit of increased literacy in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. To improve the scientific literacy of young people, content development in relation with school courses as well as information services that arouse interest and curiosity in the field of science is very important. In addition, it is necessary to develop a problem-solving program by stages. Further studies focusing on methods of improving scientific literacy of the youth are recommended.

Researches on the actual condition of the management of reading circles at 1991, 1999 and the third 2004 are analyzed and compared mutually in order to observe the process of development of reading circles because the management of reading circles in public libraries play an important role in activating reading activity. Public libraries increase twice in number than first research and take interest in the management of reading circles to activate reading activity, so public libraries are in full activity to organize and manage reading circles by themself, secure a budget for reading circles and supply spaces for reading activity constructively. However, development of the reading activity program and positioning of experts in management of reading circles have been remained as non solved problems.
The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation indicator of institutional repositories to be used by participating university libraries of dCollection. Based on the literature reviews of digital library evaluation, core evaluation measures and criteria were identified. In order to verify the applicability and appropriateness of those evaluation criteria for institutional repositories, two methods were employed: A case study with sixteen university libraries and a Delphi study with twenty university libraries. The results of both studies led the development of an evaluation model which consisted of four evaluation dimensions and 29 criteria. This evaluation model should be utilized as tools for objective assessment and guidelines for improving institutional repository services by universities libraries in which the dCollection is currently implemented or the future plan of the dCollection is underway.
This paper describes the major components of ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry(MDR) standard designed to promote data interoperability between systems, explains and discusses semantic web technology and Web ontology languages initiated by W3C that can be employed to further enhance data interoperability, and finally proposes a framework for a new RDF/OWL-based MDR to convert from the current human-readable MDR to machine-readable MDR. If the new MDR is successful, we might be able to offer a better customized information service to users. The future research will be concerned with evaluating objectively the effectiveness of machine-readable MDR in meeting the needs of real users.
In this paper we outline the evolving process of the cataloguing rules in Korea focused on the standardization. We analyzed the new and updated rules under the KCR4(Korean Cataloguing Rules, 4th edition) in terms of usability of the catalogue. Our findings can be summarized as follows: ① Since there are the rules of the unlimited number of the statement of responsibility, the access point is expanded and may bring the high searchability as a result, ② Since the rules of the general material designations are added, the catalogue users may easily identify the material, ③ Since the rules of the material specific details area are added, the catalogue users may easily understand the characteristics and other features of a publication, ④ The KCR4 seems a kind of the integrated cataloguing rules for diverse types of materials including the monographs, ⑤ Since the rules of choice and forms of the access point treated in the authority control, there seem some problems in usability of the catalogue, ⑥ The concept of the uniform heading is eliminated which seems considered only for the convenience of the cataloguers not for usability of the catalogue.
The purpose of this study is to identify factors for library space programs through user needs assessments in order to apply a library construction. Research method used was a questionnaire and subjects were residents and library users lived in Yongin where a new library was constructing. The results show that library use behavior, age, and user companions are identified as factors to influence to both functional space ratio and functional space arrangement. Reading in libraries is major activity and many subjects went to library with family so that family space is needed. In this paper, the conceptual model for bibliographic information consistent and compatible with MARC is presented. The modeling requirements are derived from MARC-related models such as MARC21, MARCXML and MODES. To meet these requirements, this paper proposes the conceptual model based on MARC formalism. The model composed with aggregation relationships among bibliographic data elements can use semantic tags of XML. As the model can be realized into diverse structures, it will be effectively applied for the development of bibliographic information management systems. Since MARC defines only record format and has the limitations in semantic representation, the metadata system that can expand bibliographic data elements in MRAC into metadata level is strongly required.
The purpose of this study is to compare the reading effects of face-to-face reading discussion with those of web-based reading discussion. For doing this, I made experimental processes: firstly, to select two discussion methods(face-to-face and web-based) on the reading discussion, secondly to apply each of those methods to experimental groups(2 classrooms, 72 middle school students). The results were that there were no differences from both discussion methods in the understanding the book, in the performance degree on discussion process among higher level groups, but the web-based reading discussion model had an impact on the attitude degree of the reading discussion, the preference degree of reading, the attendance degree of reading discussion, and especially, in the lower level groups, the web-based reading discussion method was better for the attendance degree of reading discussion, the attitude of reading discussion than the face-to-face reading discussion.
