It also investigated the title keywords and keywords of class description statistically. As a result, ‘system, ‘database’, ’network’, ‘programing’, ‘web’ are major topic keywords for both countries, but ‘library’shows high frequency pnly in Korea.
In this study, the medical library in the hospital was investigated on the overall operation status of the service target, books, facilities, environment, staff, service, etc., and the librarian in question conducted a demand survey and recognition survey of the library, and proposed a plan to activate the medical library in the hospital in the future. As a result, first, to increase the status of the library by the medical library in the hospital performing its role and improving the quality of the library 's service, it should be divided into the independent organization in the organization. Second, it is necessary to establish legal standards for collection, size, and manpower for medical libraries in hospitals. Third, in order to systematically manage medical libraries in hospitals, professional librarians should be supported and personnel should be recruited so that library-specific tasks and administrative tasks can be distinguished. Fourth, it seems that policies to support the medical library in the hospital, such as budget support at the national level, librarian specialization education, development of operation guidelines, network activation with other libraries are needed.
Libraries both in South Korea and abroad have been adopting 3D printers and related service. This indicates the need for documented 3D printer use policy to facilitate the service. This study investigates 3D printer use policies of libraries in Korea and best practices of the United States, and suggests contents for 3D printer use policies in Korea. The finding shows that Korean libraries with 3D printers did not have systematic and documented 3D printer use policies. After conducting content analysis of 16 best practices of 3D printer use policies from libraries in the United States, the authors identified five themes (purpose, users, procedures, limitations of use, and liability) and 21 sub-themes. The findings are informative for Korean libraries to develop 3D printer use policies and to understand various considerations in implementing 3D printer services.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of the organizations in the fields of academics, arts, humanities, and music in Korea on the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) which is developed by International Standard Organization (ISO) for assuring the public identities of creators, contributors, and producers to contents in the fields. National Library of Korea (NLK), one of the official registration agencies of ISNI in Korea, launched a consortium, ISNI-Korea, with various organizations in the fields to promote the ISNI registration and application. In this study, focused group interviews were carried out with participants from a total of 13 organizations; these organizations were divided into three groups by the progress on collaboration with NLK at the ISNI-Korea consortium. The current status of the personnel or membership information management by organizations, their expectations and barriers for using ISNI, and the ISNI application to the fields have been discussed intensively during the interviews. Findings from this study could benefit NLK to develop the strategies to promote ISNI in the fields. This study also proposed follow-up studies to enhance the use of ISNI in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of teacher librarians’ efficacy and to propose some ways to enhance their efficacy. To do this, questionnaires on 30 teacher librarians who participated in the level 1 certification program of K university in 2018 were conducted. The results showed that their average efficacy was 3.38, the efficacy of teaching method was 3.60, the collective efficacy was 3.38, and the personal efficacy was 3.18. They had high personal efficacy on classroom management, the willingness to lead poor students and the possibility of problem student guidance, and collective efficacy on conflict management with fellow teachers and parents. On the other hand, personal efficacy in problem analysis and guidance for problem students, difficult contents and course instruction were low. Also, the collective efficacy of the conflict between the manager and the education office was low. They have a strong willingness to improve teaching methods for students and showed high efficacy about student synchronization and preparation for teaching. However, they were aware of the lack of learning skills and the lack of various teaching methods. The variables influencing their efficacy were graduation, education level, school size, and degree. Especially, the higher the education level, the more confident and enthusiastic about teaching problemmatic students and disadvantaged students. In addition, teacher librarians with high academic standards showed high confidence in conflict resolution with peers and parents and teaching methods. The improvement direction to enhance their efficacy in this study are increasing the ratio of teacher education in the field of education, reforming teacher librarians training before appointment, establishing supervision organizations for school libraries and improving their professionalism by going to graduate school.
The purpose of this study was to elicit the priority of the index of the operation evaluation of the school library, and to present measures for improvement of the evaluation index that reflects the project sites. To this end, the school library evaluation index was analyzed by applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) analysis method to teacher librarians who are the representative personnel of the school library. According to the research, the priority of the upper tier evaluation areas was human resources, library services, information resources, library management, facilities and environment, and the priority of the lower tier evaluation items was human resource allocation, human resources expertise, reading education, information literacy education, efforts to activate education, book composition snowflake, the latest book, budget, facility access, book status, appropriateness of facilities and facilities, management plan, proximity accessibility, PR and marketing, school library steering committee, cooperation, use of materials current status. The conclusions drawn from this study could be used as basic data in the application of fieldworked school library assessment indicators.
In order to understand the trends of collaborative research in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Korea, this study analyzed bibliometric data and keywords of 5,383 Journal papers by 195 Korean LIS professors from 2000 to 2017 as well as the author credit allocation formulas of 26 Korean university research evaluation criteria. Examination of university research evaluation criteria revealed co-authors’credit level to be generally much lower than that of single authors, which in turn reduces the relative value of collaborative research. As a result, recent journals publish more co-authored papers than single author papers both domestically and internationally. The study also found collaborative research to be less prevalent in private universities than national universities and least prevalent in associate professors among professors. Furthermore, keyword analysis of study data revealed the emerging topics of both domestic and international collaborative research to be those that reflect social phenomena as well as those that relate to information science employing new technologies.
Popularly known to be originated in museums and art galleries, curation is widely applied in many other fields ranging from curation commerce to curated databases by today. Libraries also have started to provide different types of curation services such as data curation, digital curation, content curation, book curation, and social curation. However, the relationship between the curation service and the library service is not adequately studied and documented. The objective of this paper is to address that gap by analyzing the relationship between curation service and the library service. Particularly, this paper pays attention to study the relationship between curation service and library reference service. The research methods used by this study were an extensive literature review followed by some carefully selected real-world examples of curation services in libraries and other fields. The authors have analyzed and documented the origin and the meaning of two concepts, the challenges faced by library reference service, and the applicability of curation as a modest form of library reference service in the 21st-century. Based on the study findings, this paper concludes that curation service is not a new concept for the library but a natural evolution of the library reference service in response to the changing information environment and user expectations in the digital age.
In this study, the use statistics by type of data in the A university of a Institutional Repository(IR) with exponential growth in usage and the trend of changes in the access path for users to access A-IR were analyzed. In particular, it was verified that securing various exposure paths contributed to the spread of A-IR by focusing on the change in the approach path, and also confirmed that the method of communication between the ages, such as SNS, is used as the approach path of A-IR. Through this process, the company was planning to suggest the direction of operation, including diversification of exposure paths that activate the institutional repository.
The times when students are university age is a time or period of great transition and individual growth from adolescence to adulthood. Students are still semidependent upon their parents both economically and psychologically. However, it is also a time for growing self-determination and responsibility, such as studying on their own, finding effective approaches for job searches, and realizing or becoming aware of their future places in society. Therefore, as with middle and high school students, it can be a very confusing time, especially with an individual’s self-identity. If students are able to read pertinent subject matter books, talk with people and expand their scope of recognition, they should be able to better grasp traditional values and current society viewpoints maturity levels and confidence will be greatly enhanced. In this study, I propose introducing and implementing the necessary methods for the organization and management of university student reading clubs, focusing specifically on case studies with the whole country library and information science to aid students in this critical time in their young lives.
The integrated management of community archives, which is conducted by incorporating them into the category of library data through the system of library materials management is more necessary for residents to use community archives by arranging and preserving them collected by public libraries, than management implemented through a separate system. This study therefore draw25 descriptive factors by comparatively analyzing descriptive factors of the descriptive standards for community archives such as ISAD(G) and DC, etc. and integrating common or similar ones. Such 25 drawn descriptive factors were empirically tested three times by professionals through the Delphi technique, and 3 descriptive sectors and 21 descriptive factors were finally drawn. The drawn descriptive factors were divided into mandatory, mandatory if applicable and optional through KORMARC-integrated format for bibliographic data and mapping and applied to the system of library materials management, by adjusting the descriptive factors for the systems.
