Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze inquiry tasks of social studies textbooks of the first term focused on the information literacy process and find out teacher librarians’ educational information services in elementary schools. Results of the analysis show that there are 69 inquiry tasks. Among them 60 tasks are individual tasks. Within the information literacy process, the 4th grade students seem to resolve their tasks by researching or investigating resources, arranging and presenting the results of inquiry individually. The 5th and 6th grade students could read visual materials written in the text books to perform the individual inquiry tasks and present their results orally. So teacher librarian can help students judge proper information resources of the second step, order the found information of the 3rd step and evaluate the results and process of 4th step under the information literacy process.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to propose the operational organization and connective cooperation plan for the Daegu regional central library which will be completed in 2020. The vision of regional central library was presented as ‘the library for the happiness of Daegu citizens and the cradle of knowledge and culture’, and 10 core functions also proposed. In order to fulfill the roles as a regional central library, it has been suggested to maintain 5 departments including the department of administrative support, the department of library policy, the department of collection development, the department of information service, and the department of cooperative preservation. Lastly, it has also established the model of connective cooperation plans between other regional libraries and the regional central library as follows: the construction and operation of cooperative system, connective cooperation for the construction of Daegu collaborative repository, cooperative library system of ILL/DDS.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss about the progress and problems in Korean school library policies. The emphasis is on identifying both distinctive features and indigenous limitations in policy-making process, and special concerns are with both side effects and backgrounds of its rough-and-ready human resource policy. This article intends to approach the human resource policy issues from the viewpoints of school librarians as well as those of policy makers. The final suggestion includes both strategies and methods to make up and intensify the weakness of Korean school library policies, with focusing on enhancing the work competency of school librarians as well as the policy capacity of school library association.

Abstract

This study was to suggest the construction of work and expression authority records for FRBRization. ICP, FRBR/FRAD and RDA as the content rules were referred as the framework for the construction of work and expression authority records. LC RDA authority records examples, JSC of RDA authority examples, and VIAF work and expression authority records were analyzed as case studies. 5 findings were suggested. First, authority records consist of name, work, and expression authority records which are inter-related. Second, the construction of authorized access points was suggested according to 5 work types. Third, the consideration in describing work attributes as separate element and as part of an authorized access point, and other distinguishing characteristic of the work were suggested. Fourth, the consideration in describing expression attributes as separate element and as part of an authorized access point, and other distinguishing characteristic of the expression were suggested. Fifth, 5XX was suggested for linking between work and expression. This study would contribute to revise KCR4.

Abstract

The purpose of this preliminary study is to collect specific examples of book reports and understand semantic characteristics of them through semantic network. The analysis was conducted with 23 book reports which classified by three groups. The keywords were selected from the of book reports. Five types of keyword network were composed based on co-occurrence relations with keywords. The result of this study is following these. First, each keyword network of book reports of groups and individuals is shown to have different structural characteristics. Second, each network has different high centrality keywords according to the result analysis of 3 types of centrality(degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality). These characteristic means that keyword network analysis is useful in recognizing the characteristics of not only groups’ and but also individual’s book reports.

Abstract

The research objectives of this study are twofold: to analyze affective dispositions in both ‘Standards for the 21st-Century Learner(AASL, 2007)’ and ‘Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education(ACRL, 2015)’; and to look for implications from the two documents in information literacy instruction(ILI). A total of 18 and 38 affective dispositions were found in AASL(2007) and ACRL(2015) documents respectively. This study mainly discusses sequencing affective objectives and assessment techniques for the ILI. The affective dispositions found from the two documents will be a cornerstone of ILI in K-20.

Abstract

In this study, the basic operational plan for Chungnam Representative Library was established to define the function, roles, and operating strategies of the Chungnam Representing Library. A perception survey was conducted among public library users in Chungcheongnam-do and visitors to the provincial government building. Based from the results, Chungnam Representing Library’s roles in collection, organization, preservation, and provision of comprehensive library resources in the city and province was shown to be the highest at 25.65%. Moreover, when respondents were asked about their preferred data resource type for collection and management of the Chungnam Representing Library, printed data emerged as the most preferred with an average of 3.96. Depending on the theme, literature was the most preferred, resulting to an average of 4.27. Lastly, when respondents were asked about the type of service that they expect from Chungnam Representing Library, a library that provides good books from various areas and knowledge information was the most demanded at 27.79%.

Abstract

This study analyzes the success factors of the OSJ (Ocean Science Journal) intensively as an example of best practice which has been published by cooperative efforts between scholarly society and its related organization and based on the results suggests the operation method for the internationalization of scholarly journals. This study analyzes the published articles of each number, the editorial board members, and citation of the journals, and compares some related aspects with other similar cases in foreign countries. It also suggests some recommendations for the future developments of the successful internationalization of the journal, including the importance of the cooperation with related organizations, publishing articles which can be cited more, publishing special issues with the topics interested in from the readers.

Abstract

The present study investigates the seventh and the eighth graders’ perception of Free Learning Semester Programs offered by libraries by developing a survey questionnaire on students’ needs for Free Learning Semester Programs of Libraries. The skills that middle school students want to improve in Free Learning Semesters are career exploration skills, and the type of Free Learning Semester that is most intensively implemented is career exploration activities. Programs are often offered in the form of experiential classes. Regarding the activities that the students want to participate during Free Learning Semester, the most preferred activities included field experience activity in the career exploration domain, cooking class in the student choice program, smartphone app development in club activities, design activity in the art domain, the badminton in the physical education domain, and using iPad in the information use skills. In addition, among the library programs in coordination with Free Learning Semester, the students liked the occupational experience program most. Future studies need to include the development and implementation of Free Learning Semester Programs based on students’ opinions, and investigate their satisfaction with the Free Learning Semester Programs offered by libraries.

Abstract

As Open Data has been emphasized globally, discussions on data policies have occurred for minimizing problems resulting from data sharing and reuse. This study aimed at investigating policy components for controlling access and use of data and examining similarities and differences of the policy components across disciplines. For the purpose, the study analyzed policy components for data access and use controls provided by 37 research data repositories overseas. These included twenty repositories in biological and health science, ten in chemistry, earth and environmental science and physics, as well as seven in social science and general science. The analysis showed that common policy components involve copyright/licenses, data citation, disclaimers and embargoes. However, there were differences in diversity of policy components among the disciplines and it indicated that the rationales of access and use controls emphasized would be different in the disciplines.

Abstract

This study attempts to investigate the current stage of collection development process in school libraries based on interviews with 20 teacher-librarians in school libraries. Library Collection is the primary element of a library and collection development is the starting point of librarians' duty. The researchers shed light on such issues as observed in collection development process in school libraries. Through the visits and observations such problems as aging book collections, lack of support of administrators, imbalance in subject distribution are identified.

Abstract

This study aims to analyzed the treatment factors in the reading activities in order to examine the possibility for such factors to applied to the actual life of the meddle-aged, and sought for the utilization and direction of the reading program that is presented as the treatment and prevention of the emotional problems of the meddle-aged people. Considering such circumstances, involving in reading activities improves the quality of the meddle-aged people's life by meeting their internal desire by themselves and giving the meaning to their life with creativity. In addition, the reading activities helps the meddle-aged people to express in-depth conflicts, emotion, desire and thinking that they are routinely experiencing, thus leading to the treatment of their agony, trauma, and pain. In such sense, it is very meaningful for the middle-aged to be joined in any reading activities.

Abstract

“Reading Culture Promotion Act” was enacted in 2006. National policies for promoting reading culture such as “Reading Culture Promotion Basic Plan (2014-2018)” were established and are being implemented. However, due to the absence of the system which evaluates the performance of the reading culture promotion policies and programs, it is difficult to systematically implement reading programs. In consideration of this situation, this study purposed to evaluate the reading culture promotion programs. For this purpose, it developed the evaluation tool for reading promotion programs and evaluated it. On the basis of the evaluation results, the study identified the problem of the policies and programs and provided the strategies for improving them. In addition, it proposed the direction of the reading culture promotion policies for expanding the reading culture.

Abstract

This study developed subject guides for modern Korean literature materials that National Library of Korea owns. These were developed through processes such as domestic and foreign case studies, research on user's awareness, and theoretical investigation of modern Korean literature and subject guides in order to reflect characteristics unique to modern Korean literature which existed under special historical conditions. The results of acquiring actual data are as follows. First, this study acquired bibliographic data on 23,731 cases of works and information about figures regarding 117 authors of modern Korean literature. Second, this study covered raw data generated by the corresponding authors from 1894 to 1945 and the derived data generated by other authors until now on the basis of that. Third, an attempt was made to cluster the relevant information through arrangement system by author, genre and time period. The above-mentioned study results are regarded to be significant because an attempt is made to systematize and structure modern Korean literature existing in a complicated condition to such an extent that it was not possible for even the relevant academic world to find exact statistical data on author at that time.

Abstract

This study determines 69 iSchools provided which data science curriculum, and presents the direction for Korean LIS schools. It is certain that iSchools extend their subject territory including areas related to health, technology and biotechnology. However, this phenomenon is not actively observed in Korea. iSchools also focus on the area about how to process and manage data. iSchools, in deed, offer courses regarding data science, data management and data security. The ‘database’ was a higher proportion of ‘data warehouse’ curriculum, and, ‘data statistic and analysis’ curriculum are forming similar portion. As a result of analysis of the iSchool’s curriculum and comparison with Korean curriculum, this study suggests: the expansion of LIS curriculum related to data science; the enhanced role of the data translational data science; development of curriculum to raise the mathematical analysis capabilities, development of specialized curriculum and experimental classes; and support new knowledge skills to interact with technology.

Abstract

In this paper, impact of science and technology information service quality satisfaction and perceived importance on the user loyalty was studied to find the way of improvement of information service quality. To analyze the impact among service quality variables, the research questions and hypothesis are set and statistical analysis on 641 survey answers was conducted. The correlation between satisfaction and perceived importance regarding each service quality item was high. Relationship between satisfaction of every item of the service quality and overall satisfaction was verified by multiple regression analysis. As a result, the five out of seven independent variables are statistically significant influence to the dependent variable. Relationship between the perceived importance and loyalty for each item was verified by multiple regression analysis was confirmed that the four out of seven independent variables are statistically significant influence to the dependent variable. The overall satisfaction is having an effect on loyalty verified through simple regression analysis.

Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society
