본 연구에서는 심리치료학의 개념적 외연을 확장하기 위한 방안으로 심리학, 교육학 등에서 집중적인 관심의 대상이 되어온 Csikszentmihalyi(1975, 1990)의 몰입감 모델(flow model)의 심리치료적 유용성을 이론적인 측면에서 알아보았다. 먼저 몰입감의 개념과 그 특징, 몰입감 유발의 과정을 알아보았으며, 몰입감 경험의 효과성을 상담 및 심리치료적인 측면에서 알아보았다. 다음으로 몰입감 모델의 치료적 활용 가능성을 다루었는데, 여기서는 몰입감 모델의 이론적 활용가능성을 건강한 인간상, 심리장애의 원인, 치료자의 역할, 심리치료의 과정 등의 측면에서 알아보았다. 또한 몰입감 증진의 치료적 기법들을 열거하면서 일반적 치료상황에서 몰입감 증진의 기법들의 효과 가능성을 언급하였다. 마지막으로 과학이론의 평가기준에서와 심리치료적 효용성의 입장에서 몰입감 모델에 대한 평가적 논의와 앞으로의 연구의 방향을 논의하였다.
This study aims to explore the psychotherapeutic utility of Csikszentmihalyi's flow model which has been intensively reviewed in the areas of psychology, education, and counselling. First the concept, phenomenological characteristics, and its processes of the flow experience were reviewed. Second, possible effects of those skills were mentioned in the general therapeutic skills. Third, the therapeutic utilization of the flow model was discussed in respect to healthy person, aetiology of mental disorders, therapist's role, and the therapeutic process. Fourth, the therapeutic techniques for the promotion of the flow experience were presented in the general therapeutic settings. Finally, the flow model was discussed in the perspective of evaluative criteria of scientific theories and in regards to psychotherapeutic utility and further theoretical elaboration.
