Abstract

The students were instructed to prepare the materials for the reading discussion as they read books by the analytical reading, in order to make them know the efficient method of the reading dscussion as activity of after reading. As the results, They understood the plot and substance of the book, comprehend the whole subject and selected the subject of the discussion better after they read books by the analytical reading than after they didn't. But it's not satisfactory to communicate their own ideas mutually during the reading discussion as before.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to overview the administrative system and legislation of Russia's libraries with priority given to public library. After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia began to set up a new political, legal, and economic system. Russia has about 51,000 public libraries. Most towns and large villages have a public library. As a rule, public libraries are unified in centralized systems coincident in their location with administrative regions. The great majority of public libraries are part of a network subordinated to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Library legislation is an important guarantee of the success of library service. Two definitive federal laws were enacted in 1994, Library Law and Legal Deposit Copy Law. In 2001, the Russian Library Association adopted the Model Standard for Public Library. It has a recommendatory character and it is addressed to both librarians and local authorities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest for future public libraries in the knowledge information society. The development of Internet requires to change the role of information service in public libraries, and the change of social circumstance requires the role of public libraries as cultural spaces. For the future public libraries, the suggestions are that public libraries provide an instruction for users in order to get information through Internet. Next, public libraries provide comfortable, safe, luxury space in order to create regional culture so that users can get experience high culture, and use the space as cultural living zone.

Abstract

79 -This research studied the preservation treatment of the papered literature, the national treasure 745-9「Keumganggyung- samgahae」, discovered in 1995 from the Four Devas of Borimsa, Buddhist Temple at Jangheung County, in the viewpoint of the bibliography. The overall features of the 「Keumganggyung- samgahae」were of 25.3cm width, 38.9cm height, 1.5cm depth, 58 pages and of high-fine yellow-brown colored reef paper. The book was ruined physically in the shape and color. The covers of the book were deeply stained by the permeated rain and some internal pages were changing into brown color by corrosion. The treatment policies were; maintaining the status quo and capable repeated treatment. And the preservation treatment was done in the sequences of 1) 1st cleaning process, 2) repairing and correcting, 3) 2nd cleaning and preservation, 4) cutting, binding the book and making the envelope and wood box. The post-preservation features of 「Keumganggyung- samgahae」were; total 64 pages and the size being 25.8 cm width, 39.4cm of length, and 1.9cm of depth.

Abstract

95 -In this study it is to suggest a support plan between public libraries and school libraries for elementary school reading paradigm shift. Reviewing existing study contents, this is to examine elementary school reading education theoretically, and to present paradigm shift through analysis on elementary school children's reading status.By means of analysis on status of elementary school library and it's cooperation in Nowon-Ku, it is to suggest school library support project of the Nowon Children's Library as the model of support plan between public library and school library.

Abstract

119 -The objective of digital preservation is to ensure that digital information survives in usable form for as long as it is wanted. That is to ensure long-term access to digitally stored information. The preservation of digital objects involves a variety of challenges, including policy questions, institutional roles, legal and rights issues, metadata, and technical strategies. In this paper, I introduce the definition of digital object, life-cycle of digital object, and related archiving workflow which are basic concepts of digital archiving. Also I focus on the aspects of current techniques used in digital information preservation including technology preservation, emulation, refreshing, migration, encapsulation.

Abstract

139 -This study aims to investigate the problems in conducting the first year project of a five-year school library revitalization project and to suggest the alternative to the present system for the following years. The method of evaluation was to visit the 16 local ministries of education and to interview the government school inspectors, school principals, teachers-in-chief, teacher librarians and parents. The evaluation was conducted based on the following criteria; school library facilities and increase in collection, enrichment of education program through school library, location of manpower and enhancement of profession and building the cooperation system with the private and public sectors. Additionally, school library service training and library support system were evaluated.

175 -Digital information resource requires detailed metadata to ensure its long-term preservation and accessibility for future generations. This paper illuminated the characteristics of digital information resources, the concept of digital preservation, and the necessity of metadata for long-term preservation of digital information resources. And this paper examined the 16 elements of RLG metadata for preserving digital information and the Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System(OAIS) to support the interoperability of digital archiving. And then this study investigated concretely element sets of the preservation metadata for digital information resources in the Cedars and OCLC/RLG embodied within the OAIS framework. As result of the study, the paper suggested basic plan required to provide preservation metadata elements to preserve digital information resources in Korea.

205 -The purpose of this study is to propose the appropriate strategies for establishing the mission and roles of National Central Library. For this purpose, examined are the following aspects: (1) how and by whom the mission and roles of National Central Library have been defined, and what are included; (2) what are the missions and roles taken by its counterparts in other developed countries, and recommended by international organizations; and (3) how National Central Library, as the center of national information resources, can be further committed and developed to be the key institution in the knowledge-information society, by re-evaluating and establishing its roles and mission.

229 -The purpose of this study is analyze the career and works of Lee Seok-Pyo, Namrok.(1) Lee Seok-Pyo was born 14 December 1704, and successive holding of various official posts and died 15 January 1751. (2) His works were Namrokjapjeomungo, Namrokyugo and Namrokjip. Namrokjapjeomungo contained 587 entries and Namrokyugo contained 665 entries of his works. (3) And Namrokjip was compiled based on which reproduction, recomposition, omission and addition of Namrokyugo, but its entire compilation and contents are unknown because of it was lost.

251 -The purpose of this study is to introduce a customer relationship management(CRM) for more user satisfied information service through the relationship between an user-centered library management and library customers. The characteristics of library customer information needs and a general CRM system design are introduced. The result shows a plan for library CRM system. It is included a conceptual modeling design for the CRM system, a data dictionary, and event class.

271 -Such information services source like digital library has been asked information services of atypical multimedia database like image, voice, VOD/AOD. Examined in this study are suggestions such as word-phrase generator, syllable recoverer, morphological analyzer, corrector for voice processing. Suggested voice processing technique transform voice database into text database, then extract index database from text database. On top of this, the study suggest a information retrieval model to use in extracted index database, voice full-text information retrieval.

Abstract

293 -This study reviews classification used the Chosun Government-General Library which library was the first of a government library in the Korea. Chosun Government-General Library made and used the Eastern Books Classification, Old Books Classification and Foreign Books Classification. This study investigates the characteristics of the Chosun Government-General Library Classification which library was a government library at the time of Japanese occupation of Korea. This study also compares and analyzes the classification with other major related classification system at that time to identify the relationship of influence among them.

Abstract

The basis of public libraries as a service organization dependes on the customer's needs and expectation. Recently, public libraries have faced an existence crisis attacked from the development of Internet and the various cultural programs of other organizations. Thus, public libraries required continuos effort in order to get the existence necessity from community and customers. This paper investigates and compares with the Public Service Charter provided a customer oriented public service, public library evaluation indexes by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism and Gyeonggi Province, and a public satisfaction survey by Seoul Metropolitan. Thus this paper can provide the basis materials for future public library evaluation.
