Validation of the Korean Version of the Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire in Korean College Students

Abstract

This study undertaken with Korean college students validated the Korean version of the Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire(K-ICQ). The result of an Exploratory Factor Analysis suggested that the Korean version of the Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire(K-ICQ) has a 31 item-5 factor structure. Three factors(Initiation, Assertion, Conflict management) were similar as in the original ICQ, but two factors (Caring others, Appropriate disclosure) were newly named representing unique interpersonal cultures in Korea. Correlations with other criterion variables(i.e., interpersonal problems, loneliness, self-esteem, and social desirability) provided support for convergent, concurrent, and discriminant validity estimates of the K-ICQ. A test-retest reliability estimate of the K-ICQ with a 2-week interval (N = 30) was established. This study shed light on key domains of Korean interpersonal competence and refined the measure.
