Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the experience of visually impaired academic researchers’ use of scholarly contents and to explore intrinsic nature of the experience. In-depth interview was conducted with a total number of twelve visually impaired academic researchers and the data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological research method. A total of 107 significant statements were extracted, divided into 44 themes and 12 theme clusters. The statements were then classified into four categories. The ‘scholarly contents acquisition and use’ category has to do with difficulties that these experience when negotiating with internet sites with poor web accessibility and full-text availability. The ‘changes in perception and emotions’ category deals with transitions in perception and mood experienced by visually impaired academic researchers’ over time. The ‘relationships with support personnel’ category includes issues related with the difficulty of securing support person, support person’s inadequate level of competence, and establishing/sustaining personal relationships. The purpose of this study is to compare the characteristics of research collaborations in the field of LIS. While there are several studies under the unit of analysis of country, there are only a few studies under the unit of analysis of institution in LIS field. For this analysis, we selected eight journals in the KCI (Korea Citation Index) web site, which correspond to the field of LIS through subject classification. The collaborative indices, Collaborative Coefficient, Co-Authorship Index, Local Collaborative Index (LCI), Domestic Collaborative Index (DCI) allowed us to comparatively analyze institutional collaboration patterns in LIS field. In the case of Chung-Ang University, Yonsei University, and Ewha Womans University, collaborative research among professors, graduate students, and professors reflected the fact that collaborations among universities are often performed with professors. In the case of KISTI, which showed a very high index value, the characteristics of project-based research are reflected in the research collaboration pattern.

The aim of this study was to discover various Library and Information Science (LIS) research areas by examining similarities and differences between LIS journals in terms of keyword characteristics. To conduct this study, for the years from 2004 to 2016, the keywords of 6 international journals were downloaded from Scopus database (http://www.scopus.com), and the keywords of 4 Korean journals were downloaded from the RISS database (http://www.riss.co.kr). The characteristics of keywords were investigated by examining frequently used keywords and frequently used distinctive keywords pertaining to international and Korean journals. The distinctive keywords are referred to as the keywords that appear in one domain but not in another. The result of this study indicated the following: a) a frequency analysis of the keywords showed major research themes and unique traits concerning Korea. b) In general, the keywords used in Korean journals frequently reflected the library as a major subject area of research, while keywords used in international journals reflected bibliometrics and information retrieval as major subject areas of research. c) The overarching themes of each created dataset were clearly noticeable in frequently used distinctive keywords. d) Some keywords were bound by a nation or by a region due to their scope of usage. The important implication of this study is that both most frequently used keywords and most frequently used distinctive keywords seemed to adequately represent the LIS subject areas

Abstract

Traditionally, the construction industry field is one of the typical fields using facet analysis method. Internationally the facet analysis method is applied to the classification scheme 「Uniclass」 or thesaurus 「Construction Industry Thesaurus(CIT)」. In the case of Korea, the facet analysis method is being used in classification scheme 「Construction Industry Classification System」 but it is difficult to find studies on facet analysis method in thesaurus or building case study. This study aims to establish facet types by introducing building of thesaurus for information retrieval in construction field using facet analysis method and to suggest building plan of thesaurus in construction field using facet analysis method. In this paper, We establish the 11 top facets(agent/patient, artifacts, abstract, material, parts/component, works, attribute, media, process, space, time) and the 13 subfacet as rudimental facets and suggest building plan according to thesaurus building procedure which is suggested by International Standard(ISO 25964-1). The result of this study is expected to apply to facet based thesaurus. And it is also expected to reuse in Taxonomy or Ontology etc. and to use in interoperability with the classification scheme of Construction filed.
