The purpose of this study was to propose a substantial theory which may describe the kind of experiences and changing processes of disabled students to go through in a university environment. This study conducted an in-depth interview of a total of 12 juniors and seniors with disabilities in Seoul and Choongchong area. Collected data were analyzed using a grounded theory approach. The changing processes of the disabled students through college life were consisted of the five phases: ‘realization’, ‘trial and acquisition phase’, ‘internalization’, ‘re-establishment’, ‘extension phase.’ The core category was ‘to establish and expand self by accepting disability through relationship experiences and achievement experiences in an autonomous university environment.’ The finding provide implications in improving psychological growth in university students with disabilities. Also the findings demonstrate direction in designing counseling intervention directions for disabled college students.
