The purpose of the present study is to suggest strategies for i mproving cultural services provided by publics as well as meanings of these services for both thelibraries and the communities they serve. It also reviews the c urrent status of cultural services with the exampleof Kyonggi-Do. Finally, five strategies for improving cultural services are presented: differentiatinginstitutions such as museums andperforming centers, as well as specifying the services in respo nse to characteristics of the community theybelong; utilizing community analysis and National Cultural Enjo yment Survey data; establishing national andf development programs in regards of culturalservices; and finally, adopting marketing techniques in designi ng library cultural services.
The purpose of this study is to examine the trend and character istics of ‘by studying cases of four communities: ‘If All of Seattle Read the Same Book’ (Seattle), ‘One Book One Chicago’(Chicago), ‘Reading’‘The Grapes of Wrath ’(California) and ‘Canada Reads’books, discussion guides, and programs of 239 ‘One Book’campaigns. ‘One Book’reading campaign can be characterizedto be successful for combining various media and events with re ading and discussion of written text, and largely dependentheir diversity in selecting books and conducting programs.

Since a basic objective of education is for student to learn how to learn, information literacy become increasingly more important for all students. This paper presents an overview of definitions, standards and models of information literacy and information literate. Based on these, we suggested learning method and curriculum of information literacy for the lower grades of elementary school.

This study intends to evaluate the quality of the Digital Libra for its quality control. The evaluation criteria are hit rates, redundancy, completeness and accuracy. Inspite of high hit rates excessive records representing one work completeness rate of records was 48.12% due to low level of des cription. The Analysis of accuracy showedvarious errors in most of records corresponding to 92%. Emphasi the causing factors and suggested practical guidelines for scho ol libraries’catalogers.
This study campares and analyzes the cataloging rules of the mo nographic publications included inthe 4th edition of the Korean Cataloging Rules(KCR) & the lst r evision of the 3rd edition of the KCR.Especially it focuses on the different rules applied for the sa me specified areas, such as Title & Statementof Responsibility Area, Edition Area, Material Specific Details Area, Publication, Distribution, Etc., Area,etc. As a result, this analysis can be useful for cataloging mo nographic publications and so that the KCR4will remain a viable standard for bibliographic description and ac ess into the future.
The purposes of this research are to find out why the Korean librarianship has not been fully recognized as a profession and how its recognition can be improved. This research also tries to investigate what the librarians are actually doing at libraries and if their works reflect the criteria of professional works. The research was done through the questionnaires sent to the graduates of the Department of Library Science, Daegu Catholic University working at various types of libraries. Based on the results of the survey, some efforts to improve the professionalism of librarianship are suggested.

This study intends to shed light on the everyday lives of Korean-residents in Japan, especially in terms of their information behavior. Employing survey method and in-depth interviews interchangeably, it attempts to illustrate some features in their information need and seeking pattern, and to scrutinize major reasons of their passive behavior in information seeking. Specifically discussed are (1) their types of everyday concerns and ways to deal with such concerns; (2) types and characteristics of the problems-solving behavior; (1) types and characteristics of the preferred information sources; and, barriers to and limitation of their everyday information seeking and information use.
The purpose of this study is to assist librarians in developing a bibliographic tool for bibliotherapy practices. Bibliotherapyis a form of psychotherapy in which carefully selected reading materials are used to assist a subject in solving personalapy has rarely been either studied or practiced in Korea.For a bibliographic tool which is called ‘situational reading list’, a client situation has to be classified by the factors ofbiological, place and personal relations, type of stress or sym researches in the field of psychology or psychoanalysis. Main c onclusions made in this study are summarized as follows: The most important factors to classify a client situation in a bibliographic tool are age, sometimes sex, home background,ggest the scheme of situation classification according tothe decimal classification system. There are the general class, child class, teenager class, adult class and senior class inthe classification system.
