Many public libraries have restricted or forbidden most food and drink on the basis of a number of reasons, and it is necessary to demonstrate that it is legitimate or unfair. To this purpose, the researchers surveyed 485 public library users residing in Daegu City on the perception of food and drink policy. Based on survey results, the researcher suggested improvement directions from various perspectives. First, public library should proactive review the restriction policy in terms of social paradigm. Second, allowing food and drink is a strategy and a right way to justify the existing value and social role of public libraries and strengthen the ecosystem in terms of guaranteeing basic rights of users. Third, it is desirable to emphasize the pure function rather than the dysfunction due to food and drink allowance in terms of facilitating the collection and space use. Fourth, the totalitarian thinking that restrict all or most food and drink in the bylaws or library regulations should be avoided. Finally, public library should allow all food and drink, but it is necessary to prescribe a kind of the food which can be consumed by space, and actively promote to the user.
The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of secondary school teachers' perceptions and experiences of school libraries and to suggest strategies for its' activation. In order to achieve this aim, the questionnaire survey was conducted for 229 secondary school teachers who participated in K university qualification training in 2017. As a result, they recognize that school libraries are an essential facility and that continuous support and investment are needed. They think that the effectiveness of the school library is very helpful for creating a leisure and cultural life and for stimulating reading atmosphere and education, and this perception is stronger at lower ages. The number of school library use of them is as low as once a month, and the purpose of use is mainly for cultivation and leisure. The discomfort of the school library is mostly due to lack of materials and space for them. In particular, they have a lack of knowledge and necessity about the method of library-based instruction and insufficient preparation time and poor materials. Teachers are highly aware of the need and utility of training, and prefer training with peers. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies such as remodeling space and increasing collections for their study and instruction, and foster peer supervision so that they can actively utilize school library in subjects management.

The study analyzed the characteristics of two library and information science journals indexed by Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus in 2015 along with two of their non-indexed sister journals. The study also analyzed the characteristics of a SCIE- and Scopus-indexed oceanographic journal published domestically along with its sister journal indexed by Scopus only. In addition, the study collected and analyzed the articles published during 2014 and 2015 in these 6 journals as well as the citations they received in 2016. By comparing the characteristics and publication data of indexed journals and their sister journals, the study aimed to identify the properties of WoS-indexed journals that may be helpful in enhancing international journal publication. The findings from the analysis of data can be summarized as follows: WoS-indexed journals publish more frequently, focus mainly on articles, are authored by researchers from many countries, and have higher quality papers that receive more citations than their non-WoS-indexed sister journals. The study also found higher rates of co-authored papers in WoS indexed journals, which were amplified in LIS journals. This is an important factor to consider for Korean LIS journals that are dominated by singe-author articles when they prepare to be indexed in WoS.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of the military library services and the factors for promoting the reading of the soldiers and the activation of the use of the library by investigating the perception, use behavior and satisfaction of the library users, and the usefulness of ‘JinJung’ library collection. For this purpose, we surveyed the users of the Army, Navy, and Air Force military libraries. As a result of the survey, they responded that they were reading to acquire new knowledge and information and to cultivate the education. The favorite reading areas were general fiction, poetry, comic books, martial arts and fantasy novels. In order to encourage the soldiers to read in the military, diversity and quantitative expansion of collections are most needed, and soldiers said they most desire to expand the books on novels, poetry, admissions and employment preparation books. In addition, in order to increase the utilization rate of the military library and the interest in reading, it was necessary to increase the accessibility of the soldiers' library and books to the military, and to increase the library use time.
This study analyzed nineteen best-practices (161 sub-programs) regarding school library media program. According to the analysis of the CIPP Model, (Context) most of the excellent programs were aimed at reading education (41.5%) and library use education (11.3%), and more than half (53.8%) cases were initiated by learners' needs. (Input) excellence programs employed various teaching materials and were operated at fixed time. (Process) the programs were run in a variety of ways, mainly with reading instruction (30.4%) and cultural activities (17.3%). (Product) As a fruit of programs, students and parents’ satisfaction, students’ achievement, self-confidence, and self-improvement were reported.
Although academic library budgets have been decreasing, the rates of print and electronic journal subscription price have consistently increased. In response to this, as part of efforts to ensure access to foreign academic materials, the Ministry of Education and Korea Education & Research Information Service (KERIS) have initiated and operated Foreign Research Information Center (FRIC) since 2006, pursuing shared acquisition and sharing of foreign print journals. This study investigates the roles/values, issues raised by stakeholders, improvements in services, and new service elements of FRIC through the in-depth interviews with librarians in charge of FRIC in addition to examining its current state. The findings show that FRIC has contributed to sharing of academic materials and to promoting research. However, it was also found that the five types of stakeholders (i.e., the Ministry of Education/KERIS, universities/libraries, users, FRICs, and publishers/agencies) have diverse issues and problems with FRIC. Therefore, this study makes some suggestions to address the issues in terms of policy, system, management, and service.
This study aims to verify the effect of school library education service on the information literacy ability of high school students in the poor economic environment. For this purpose, we narrowed down to 215 high school first graders with substandard educational conditions, and then implemented information literacy education. The results of the information literacy test were compared, before and after the information literacy service. The preliminary tests of 15 schools including the targeted school were conducted, and we found that the results of the self-evaluation in those 15 schools exceed those with other generally good educational conditions. We considered in all aspects to find out how to overcome the information literacy gap through information literacy programs. Reflecting on the previous research verifying that the difference in educational environment affects the information literacy, we can confirm that the information literacy education service, which is the core service of the school library, can narrow the information literacy gap. We hope that this study will be a basis for the systematic establishment of information literacy education in public education.
The purpose of this study is to analyse the Big6 model and the Big6 modification model to find out the characteristics of the Big6 model and to derive implications for applying the Big6 model in the field. For this purpose, the information literacy standards of the AASL and the ACRL were compared with the Big6 model. The Big6 model, influenced by Bloom’s taxonomy was analyzed alongside the Big6+3 model, the Big8 model and the modified Big6 model, provided by LG Science Land. As a result, the Big6 model could be used as an information problem-solving model, metacognitive activation strategy, and scaffolding to improve students’ information literacy. In addition, it could be used as a model for constructivism, inquiry-based learning, the integration of curriculum, collaborative education, and ICT technology. How teacher-librarians or librarians apply the Big6 model is related to the improvement of critical thinking skills. Teacher-librarians and librarians need to plan situations, subjects, topics, and methods in a systematic and specific way when applying the Big6 model to the information literacy curriculum.

Metadata standard is very important element to describe a digital resource in the records lifecycle. Metadata standard is influenced by the purpose and content of tasks that are performed to a resource. But it does not reflect a task-centric viewpoint to cover the whole records-lifecycle because metadata is defined and designed from a resource-centric viewpoint. In other words, to cover the whole records-lifecycle using metadata, it is necessary to properly select and combine metadata property from a task-centric viewpoint. Therefore, we proposed a task-centric metadata application profile that can combine and select appropriate metadata properties according to requirements and tasks performed on resource.
