본 연구는 대학생 234명을 대상으로 하여 내현적 자기애 및 외현적 자기애가 진로미결정에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 자기제시동기 수준에 따라서 외현적 자기애와 진로미결정과의 관계가 어떻게 달라지는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 내현적 자기애의 하위변인 가운데 목표불안정, 인정욕구/거대자기 환상, 소심/자신감 부족이 진로미결정에 정적인 영향을 미치며, 이 가운데 목표불안정 요인이 진로미결정의 하위변인에 공통적으로 영향을 미치는 요인임을 발견할 수 있었다. 또한 외현적 자기애의 하위변인인 자신감은 진로미결정 하위변인에 공통적으로 부적 영향을 미치는 변인임을 발견하였다. 둘째, 외현적 자기애와 진로미결정간의 관계에 있어서 자기제시동기가 조절효과를 갖는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 진로미결정에 영향을 미치는 개인적 성격특성을 밝혀보았다는 데에 그 의의가 있다. 특히, 진로미결정과 관련된 자기애의 긍정 부정 특성이 자기제시동기 수준에 따라 달라짐을 발견함으로써 자기애와 관련된 연구의 폭을 넓힐 수 있었다는 데에 시사점이 있다.
This study aimed at investigating how covert and overt narcissism affects career indecision. It also sought to examined how the relationship between overt narcissism and career indecision differs depending on levels of self-presentational motivation among the 234 university students who participated in this study. The results were as follows. First, the results showed that Goal Instability, Need for Attention/ Self-Aggrandizing Fantasy, Timidity/Confidence Deficiency, and subscales of covert narcissism correlated to career indecision positively. This was especially so in terms of Goal Instability, a subscale of covert narcissism which was a common factor affecting subscales of career indecision. Moreover, Self-Confidence, a subscale of overt narcissism, was a common factor negatively affecting subscales of career indecision. Second, self-presentational motivation moderated the relationship between overt narcissism and career indecision. The implications of this research are that it illuminates many of the personality characteristics which influence career indecision.
