The main purpose of this study was to investigate the buffering effect of self-compassion on anger thought and expression. An additional objective was in the comparison of the effect of self-compassion on anger thought and expression with that of self-esteem. Results of multiple regression are as follow. First, the effect of primary anger thought on secondary anger thought were conditional on the levels of self-compassion, but not on those of self-esteem. Second, the relation between secondary anger thought and anger expression did not depend on either self-compassion or self-esteem. This study contributes to our understanding of the effects of self-compassion on anger thought and expression by showing that self-compassion plays a stronger role in accounting for the various cognitive components of anger than self-esteem.
