Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of records for reading activities in high schools and to make a suggestion for improvement of reading activities records. Data for 120 high school students were collected and analyzed for this study. This study showed negative response results in terms of the satisfaction of the ‘reading activity situation’ record, the necessity of the reading activity record, and the method of recording the reading activity. It is, however, necessary to improve the current recording method to invigorate high school students’ reading activities. Since it is not easy to identify students’ development in reading by the titles which they provides for the reading activity records, a variety of reading activities need to be recorded for understanding students’ development process and interaction activities with teachers. It is expected that the findings in this study will be significant data to improve evaluation methods of reading activities for college admission and to cultivate proper reading culture in high schools.

Abstract

Psychotherapy is an area of psychology that helps/treats people who are experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties by non-medical means. Psychotherapists build up theoretical backgrounds, profiles, and/or techniques to adequately assist clients and participants in the treatment of these disorders. Despite the fact that South Korea has a history of nearly 20 years in the field of bibliotherapy, there has not been a developed or proposed psychotherapy treatment model that suits many objectives and goals utilizing bibliotherapy. In this study, based on the person-centered counseling theory, we intend to develop a model and approach focusing on the clients-participants who are subject to bibliotherapy. This study will be the basis and reference for the development of bibliotherapy model(s) suitable for various psychological objectives and goals in the future as an alternative or in addition to other psychotherapy methods and techniques.

Abstract

As a public institution, it is the duty and responsibility of a library to provide readers with information about books. To provide such information to readers, a librarian should have the ability to provide satisfactory consultation and advice. As interest in picture books grows, there is an increasing need for libraries and librarians to produce and release picture book reviews on a regular basis to inform readers of what makes a good picture book, and which among similar books should they choose. Other than summarizing the content of a picture book, a good picture book review should also provide additional information that will help readers understand the reviewed book such as the literary symbolism of a book’s visual texts. To this end, a librarian is required to develop visual literacy, which would enable him/her to read into the deeper meaning of the images imbued with the writer’s ideas and philosophy. In light of the above discussion, this study compares and analyzes two picture book versions of the story Little Red Riding Hood, with the purpose of helping librarians understand the visual texts that they need to refer to when writing picture book reviews.

Abstract

Alternative materials for the visually disabled are very important factors for accessing and using information, dissolving the knowledge information gap, social participation and integration. Nevertheless, since alternative materials have been produced, until recently, even under the voluntary efforts of the braille library and the financial support of local governments, the scope of the materials is restricted to literary materials and hobby books, duplicated in title, and limited in format. In this study, we investigated and analyzed the cases of domestic and international library and related organizations’ alternative material production and the current state and perception of alternative materials by applying the survey method to special libraries for the visually disabled and the visually disabled. Based on these results, we added suggestions for the improvement for alternative material production and utilization.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to figure out the movements of policy actors in the policy process of the establishment of a local cultural foundation in B-gu(district), A-si(city), then to explore the way to contract out of the management of public libraries to the cultural foundation in the policy process. Data for the study were collected from various sources from newspapers and assembly minutes to blogs and SNS messages of the policy actors, then analysed based on Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF). The results showed that ‘agreement of contract-out’ coalition only accepted public interest of the public libraries between the public interest and specialty of librarianship which were insisted by ‘disagreement of contract-out’ coalition’s policy beliefs. The comparison between this case and a similar policy case showed that the specialty of librarianship as a core belief is effective in changing the beliefs of other coalition. Eventually, it is required to differentiate and to specialize library services among public services in a local area in order to keep the direct management of public libraries by the local government, and this means that everyday library services influence the decision making of library policies in the local area.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the background of the agenda-setting to appoint library professional as the director of National Assembly Library and characteristics of the policy entrepreneur of this agenda. To this purpose an agenda-setting process in 2014 is analyzed with the Kingdon’s multiple streams model. Kingdon’s multiple streams model explains that an agenda is set when a window of opportunity is opened by coupling of problem stream, political stream, and policy stream. They have existed independently before setting the agenda. This study showed that the political stream was the major stream to open the window of opportunity. The lawmaker in the opposition party is identified as the leader for the agenda and the motivations, resources, and strategies of the policy entrepreneur were also analyzed. The analysis showed the agenda for library professional as the director was set without visible participation of library professionals. Therefore this study proposed the library professionals’ roles for the library and information policy making process.
