The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a job-esteem scale that reflects the unique characteristics of academic librarians. The study conducted an analysis of relevant literature and existing scales in the scale development phase, followed by in-depth interviews with 10 academic librarians, resulting in the creation of 100 preliminary measurement items. These items underwent content validity testing, consultations with linguists, and face validity assessments, which culminated in the selection of 52 items for a preliminary measurement scale. A pilot survey was then administered with 300 academic librarians from four-year universities nationwide to collect data, and item analysis and reliability testing were performed with the data. Then, an exploratory factor analysis was conducted, resulting in the elimination of 22 items and the finalization of 30 items. The main survey was conducted with 345 academic librarians, and the study confirmed high reliability of the data through item analysis and internal consistency tests. Through another confirmatory factor analysis, the study finalized 29 items. The final scale met all criteria for convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. This study marks the first development of a job-esteem scale tailored to the distinct attributes of academic librarians, and its significance lies in its utility for assessing and analyzing the job esteem of academic librarians.
The purpose of this study is to develop educational strategies and models by applying future-oriented elements of libraries, which are transitioning into integrated spaces through collaboration with archives and museums, into school library education. This study focuses on the changes where libraries expand their spaces and roles in response to the trends of a pluralistic society. The term ‘Larchiveum’ was established to represent a knowledge and culture complex space. The concepts and functions of this term were identified, and the characteristics of materials collected and managed by archives, museums, and art galleries, as well as domestic and international educational information services, were analyzed to explore ways to integrate them into school library education. Based on the ASSURE instructional design model, which emphasizes the effective selection and use of teaching and learning media, this study developed Larchiveum strategies, including ‘Inquiry-based Information Utilization,’ ‘Curriculum Integration and Convergence,’ ‘Collaboration, Sharing, and Dissemination,’ and ‘Digital Archive,’ and structured the educational content accordingly. The procedures and steps were refined through the evaluation and feedback of field experts, leading to the development of a collaborative educational model that incorporates Larchiveum strategies, resources, and inquiry-based instruction.
This study developed a model to classify news articles into categories of topic, genre, and region using a Korean Pre-trained Language model. To achieve this, a new news article classification system was designed by referring to the classification systems of domestic media outlets. The topic and genre classification models were implemented as hierarchical classification models that link the main categories and subcategories, and their performance was compared with that of an integrated category model. The evaluation results showed that the hierarchical structure classification model had the advantage of providing more precise categorization in ambiguous or overlapping categories compared to the integrated category model. For regional classification of news articles, a model was built to classify into 18 categories, and for regional news articles, the regional characteristics were clearly reflected in the text, resulting in high performance. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of classifying news articles from multiple perspectives—topic, genre, and region—and emphasized the significance of suggesting the potential for a multi-dimensional news article classification service that meets user needs.
In this study, we designed and verified a research model that identifies the correlation between public library organizational justice, the engagement of service contact members, and user orientation. First, distributive justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Second, interaction justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Third, procedural justice was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. Fourth, engagement was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. As a result of structural equation model analysis, it was analyzed that engagement had a greater influence on user orientation. Service contact members who have the attitude of having organizational members take voluntary and self-sacrificing actions in library operation and are willing to be positively immersed in their work can take user-oriented actions that provide services with users as the top priority. Because the possibility is high. It has practical significance in that it suggests strategies and improvement plans that can be helpful to libraries.

Additionally, strategies for expanding member rights include developing customized benefits, advocating for member rights protection, and strengthening member activities. These strategies are expected to help KLA meet the diverse needs of its members, build closer relationships, and foster more active and meaningful association activities.
This study analyzed the current status of late fee policies for overdue books in public libraries in the United States and Korea and derived measures to improve the late fee policy in public libraries in Korea. Therefore, this study analyzed the current status of late fee policies in public libraries in Seoul, Korea. The results indicated that 14.8% of public library operators and 21.6% of public libraries in Seoul had late fee policies. In the US, the American Library Association and major public libraries were found to have recently eliminated late fees. The main justification for this policy change was their recognition of late fees as a form of social inequality. In fact, this study confirmed that the elimination of late fees led to users’ increased access to information. This study also found that public libraries in the US turned books not returned after a certain period into lost items and imposed fines for lost items. In conclusion, this study suggested integrating measures for late fees and lost items to manage non-returned books and clarifying the legal basis for such measures.

Academic information providers are working on developing and establishing new types of content in response to the diverse academic content needs of researchers. To efficiently build and manage a wide range of content, these institutions are establishing digital curation platforms. These platforms apply digital transformation technologies to automate the collection, construction, and management of academic content, supporting researchers’ activities by providing necessary content. To operate these platforms efficiently, it is essential to establish criteria that can effectively address the diverse content needs of users. We developed indicators for selecting new content and applied these selection priorities on a trial basis to the digital curation platform. The indicators for new content selection include content value, user demand and satisfaction, and the ease and efficiency of content collection, construction, and management. These indicators can be utilized during the acquisition and selection stages of the digital resource lifecycle.
In this study, a place branding model for public library was designed to revitalize public libraries’ user visits by modifying and extending the Cai(2002)’s Place Branding Model. By applying this model, an example of creating a brand image of a public library was presented, and it was verified that this example is suitable as a brand image. To this end, literature research on the place branding models and brand marketing was conducted, and the types and contents of marketing suitable for the place branding model of public library were founded. And to verify that the example of the public library’s brand image created by applying this model is suitable as a brand image, A survey of user perception was conducted on the brand image and brand identity of the applied library for this model, and the results of the survey were used to analyze the correlation and simple regression between these two variables. In this way, this study is meaningful in increasing the realization and real potential of place branding for promoting public libraries’ user visits through the design and application of a conceptual model that embodies the place branding of public library.
This research is a case study of ‘One City One Book: San Francisco Reads’ (Hereafter OCOB), which is an ‘One Book’ community reading promotion campaign, sponsored by San Francisco Public Library in California. In this research, the objective of OCOB as ‘One Book’ program, the characteristics of selected books, and major programs and events from 2005 to 2024 were examined. OCOB, while sharing a typical objective of ‘One Book’ campaign, which pursues to form a city-wide book club and promote reading and talking about ‘One Book’ among citizens, selected books which reflected cultural and ethnic diversities of San Francisco and its civic identity. San Franciscans reacted to the efforts of OCOB by actively participating in programs and events and borrowing the selected books. For the past 20 years, OCOB has demonstrated the continuity, consistency, self-reliance, and independence as a ‘One Book’ program, which pursues to better understand diversities and integrate communities, and is expected to continue as an important initiative, which is a strategic part of ‘Cultural Amplifier’ and ‘Community Catalyzer’ for ‘Vision 2030’ of SFPL.
This study aims to develop a vision and policy plan to realize the humanities and social values of libraries in Gyeongsangbuk-do and to respond to the rapidly changing social environment of the future. To achieve this goal, seven evaluation criteria were identified, and 19 evaluation indicators were selected. Implications were drawn by assessing the performance and importance of plan implementation. A major implication was that while the perception of the plan’s extent and importance was generally high, the extent and importance of items such as establishing and operating a joint archive, providing employment and entrepreneurship support programs for people of all ages, and activating parent volunteers were all low. Based on these findings, the policy tasks were developed, consisting of 10 policy tasks and 28 action tasks under four strategies.

This study analyzed domestic and international research trends on libraries and artificial intelligence(AI). Among the papers published from 1995 to 2024, papers with keywords for libraries and artificial intelligence were targeted. A total of 13 papers registered in the KCI in Korea and 305 papers registered in the Web of Science(WOS) in foreign countries were collected. Targeting the abstracts and keywords of the collected papers, the frequency of keyword appearance by period was identified and network analysis was performed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that research related to artificial intelligence in libraries is increasing rapidly and is diversifying and subdividing. In addition, it was confirmed that if the service and user-related research was conducted in the early stages, it was gradually changing to the target technology, data, and data-related research.
To promote libraries as “Libraries for All,” it is essential to assess the current state of regional library infrastructures and explore policy support strategies for their improvement. This study develops the ‘Library Vitality Index’ as a metric to evaluate libraries’ capabilities as sustainable infrastructures. The index assesses various aspects, including libraries’ environmental responsiveness, accessible design, level of digital transformation, and capacity to provide universal cultural services. The research involved a comprehensive review of domestic and international cases, Delphi surveys, and expert group interviews to derive the final set of indicators. These indicators were weighted based on their importance using AHP analysis. The final index consists of three components: regional library activation (300 points), individual library capacity (470 points), and feedback systems (30 points), with a total of 800 points. The index includes 108 items, divided into 14 for regional library activation, 88 for individual library capacity, and 6 for feedback systems.
