This study intends to improve current cataloging structure on Object-Oriented basis, and evaluate this in terms of effectiveness of using. From current cataloging structure, which based on unit record, this study extracted the elements related title, responsibility and subject. And designed it isolated object file from bibliographic substances and named it 3ObC(3 Object based Catalog). This study developed the physical scheme of Object-Oriented database, and proposed input and exchange format of 3ObC based Object-Oriented Catalog using XML. To evaluate usage satisfaction, this study made a comparative experiment about 2 MARC based systems. One of the controlled system is common MARC based system (MbCS), and another is extended MARC based system which is equipped with relation reference table device.(MbCSPlus)
This study presents revision scheme of Korean Decimal Classification appropriate for classification of children-related materials, mainly centered on general works and literature occupying the majority of children-related materials in school libraries. Towards this goal, I have studied the development and use of classification system for children-related materials available in domestic and overseas school libraries or children’s libraries, and researched elementary school 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students’ degree of understanding on classification item terms and children-related materials terms used for KDC’s standard divisions, literature form divisions, general works, and literature. Based on the results of analysis, I have presented revision scheme of Korean Decimal Classification item terms and class numbers for children-related materials.
The objective of the study is to develop the identification code of the Korean sci-tech journals for KSCI. To achieve the purpose, the study has researched and analyzed a variety of the major international and national serials or information objects identification code systems. And then, KOJIC(KOrean Journal Identification Code) has been developed. KOJIC is unique, unambiguous identifiers for titles of Korean journals in all subject areas. The concepts of KOJIC are simplicity, mnemonics, internationalization, and extensibility of its use. KOJIC is a six-character and alphanumeric code and has one check character.
The purpose of the study is to develop a curriculum of school librarians using a job analysis. A job analysis is used to reform the educational programs and to develop new ones. For the analysis Verification method and New Analysis method is applied. In the knowledge society, school librarians of ability can follow up the revolution of educational paradigm and catch up the needs of library service area. As patron demands grow on more electronic resources, so libraries acquire more electronic resources. Problem is that most libraries do not have enough staff and budget to deal with considering the purchase of electronic products. What is worse is that databases subscription fees are raised every year. This study suggests the policy for consortial purchasing of electronic resources as a national level which makes it possible to build efficient and reasonable acquisition process.
Chinese archives are usually classified by two different approaches, archival arrangement system and national classification system(that is, retrieval classification). While the former applies Fonds theory to Chinese context, the latter is designed for subject retrieval of Chinese information sources. Focusing on The Method of Archival Classification of China(2nd ed.), this paper examines basic principles of retrieval classification and its applications using the case of Jilin Provincial Archives. Especially this paper reviews structure and contents of three classification systems of historical archives, and provides suggestions for studies on archival arrangement for our historical archives.
This study is to develop model for collaborative digital reference service which transfer questions and answers between collaborative libraries via formal protocol. For collaboration, interoperability of reference transaction must be needed. Therefore, for seamless and systematic collaborative digital reference service, this model has shown transaction for processing of questions and answers, and standard formats for exchange and knowledge base of question and answer pairs, with collaboratively building internet reference resources and sharing reference database. This model will enhance digital reference service locally and networked digital reference.
The purpose of this study is to investigate MARC AMC that is using currently in archives and record repositories, national networks as OCLC·RLIN·WLN·etc., and the NUCMC of Library of Congress. In this study, therefore, the characteristics of archives and archival description and the establishment backgrounds and peculiarities of MARC AMC are examined as the backgrounds. Then the structure and data elements of USMARC AMC are analyzed. And the needs and directions of KORMARC AMC are presented.
This study aims to evaluate the usability for improving quality of information services in eight public libraries website, Daejeon City Area. Usability testing are used two method, that is WebXACT analysis and Heuristic Evaluation. These analysis are included the generalitems(file size, total downloaded size, file type, metadata tag, style sheet, image), quality of website(content defects, search and navigation, page efficiency, browser compatibility) and accessability. Finally this paper was suggested some general testing guidelines for improving usability of public libraries website in accessability and navigation
The purpose of this study is to design a digital library model which can provide integrated services of science information for the youth and evaluate usability. Forty domestic and foreign science websites for the youth were examined and categorized by service features. Based on the results of the examination, a science digital library was maded. And then, web log file analysis and heuristic evaluation by science experts were conducted. The results of web log file showed that users applied the most of search terms at the subject classification and words with high frequency was related to the science curriculum. In heuristic evaluation, this integrated science information system was convenient for use and expected as a valuable system which could be the science gateway for the youth by increasing the amount of contents in the future.
This study is to introduce the information security tools and sources. It then discusses the vulnerability of information services in digital library and many security methods are suggested. Also, the web server of 174 university libraries have been checked and found that many web servers are running vulnerable version of system. Remarkable web sites of information security have been recommended which are useful for system administrator, network engineer and librarians. This study will be used for information security in digital library.
