This study was conducted to find out how the team organization works and to suggest better ways of applying the team system to a library organization. In this study, the survey was conducted to examine the characteristics of the university libraries that have adopted the team system, and the problems in operation were analyzed. The findings indicate that staffs at the university libraries had a comparatively negative image of the team system, and that university library has provided insufficient training and less supports for their staffs in the process of adopting the system. This study might be applicable to any strategy which seeks to reduce bureaucracy, empower staff, create a team system culture, and enhance the delivery of high quality services.
In recent years, decentralization has been conceived as an inevitable force for the competitiveness of a nation and regions in many countries. Decentralization can be defined as the devolution by central government of specific functions, with all of the administrative, political and economic attributes. This study aims to analyze a full view of decentralization reform and its impact on libraries and draws an inference of public library's directions in Korea. It is still premature to talk about interdependence of decentralization and public libraries, but we must start an analytical and inferential research.
University library user's needs and complains are delivered to librarians through the homepage BBS. The purpose of this study is to examine the user's needs and complains in BBS. Twelve domestic university libraries and three foreign university libraries are analyzed. And the result of this study will be useful for developing the library system for end users.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the information service and the design of the information system of LG Science Land and NSDL which was designed as Integrated Information System in Science Digital Library for youth. After that, the requirement and inclination of the system user was analyzed through on-line questionnaire and finally the Subjective-Oriented Directory System was modified in detail as improvement issue of the system. This study has a significance in designing a user-friendly information environment that the youth can access information in science more conveniently and proving the efficiency of it.
This study is supposed to the way to add and enlarge the elements related to educational domain in metadata of school library information system(DLS) by using the concept of learning object which the education information service agencies have adapted. This study is to propose the methods which can be accessed according to the units of learning content in order that they can be applied to the teaching and learning situations, and describe and index the total traits of interior data elements included in the information resources. Thus, the metadata of the existing DLS through the additional elements: <relation>, <classification>, and <educational> was made to access the information resources according to the teaching and learning situations and to accept the concept of interior learning units by means of the <relation> element.
This study was to predict through the trend analysis, one of the forecast technique, the future of library and Information center. In order to do that literature reviews, analysis of library's home page and specialist interview were conducted. As a result, it appeared that based on the trend analysis to predict the middle future(after 5-10 years) of library and information center. The results of this study are as follows. The first, the future information environment is represented by mobile and ubiquitous. Through this, anytime, anywhere, any device, we can be taken any media. The second, the problems of future library are technical, economic, social, ethical and legal problem. The third, unreliable factors come out in time lag, the supply speed of terminals, library services, copyrights and so on. The fourth, the future library is expanded through wireless terminal information access and use, development of mobile technique, universal ubiquitous environment and electronic information's use are extended.
The purpose of this study is to present the base of the directions of standardization for our archival description through the analysis of the efforts of standardization for archival description in the United States and their archival description rules. In this study, therefore, the standardization for archival description and the development of standards in the United States are examined as the backgrounds. Then the establishment backgrounds, peculiarities, and contents of the Chapter 4 Manuscripts of AACR2R and APPM2 are analyzed. And the directions of archival description standard rules in our archival description are presented.
This study make comparative analysis of the cataloging rules on the edition area included in the KCR4, NCR(2001), AACR2R, ISBD(M), and ISBD(ER). There is a delicate difference between the cataloging rules. The main features on the edition are as the follows. (1) In the bibliography description the concept of the edition is a general application. That is to say, the edition construct the new edition and the impression. The former comes the purview of a change content, the size, and a printing type. The latter publish newly. (2) The requisite for description of the edition area consists of a edition statement, statements of responsibility relating to the edition, additional edition statement, and statements of responsibility following an additional edition statement. Voluntary rules transcribe the parallel edition statement. (3) In the case of the electronic materials special versions on content and function indicates as the edition, but the environment of software does not indicate as it. (4) Parallel statement of responsibility relating to the edition, parallel additional edition statements, and parallel statements of responsibility following an additional edition statement are voluntary rules or not transcribed in the edition area.
The purpose of the study is to identify the degree of relevancy on the facilities for the older persons in the public library buildings. To achieve the purpose, the study has researched and analyzed ‘the guidelines of the law contributing to the convenience of the handicapped, older persons, pregnant women etc(1999)' for the older persons accessing to the facilities in the public library buildings. And then, the older persons' physical standard sizes in ‘Size Korea(1997)' are researched and reconfigured. The study has selected the 10 kinds in such facilities as followed: Door, Accessible Route, Stair, Elevator, Escalator, Ramp, Toilet Stall, Urinal, Table, and Post Box. As the result, the study has identified the relevancies of each facilities based on the older persons's physical standard sizes.
In this paper, we present that the result of document clustering can change dramatically with respect to the different ways of indexing compound nouns. First of all, the automatic indexing engine specialized for Korean words analysis, which also serves as the backbone engine for automatic document clustering system, is introduced. Then, the details of hierarchical agglomerative clustering(HAC) method, one of the widely used clustering methodologies in these days, was illustrated. As the result of observing the experiments, carried out in the final part of this paper, it comes to the conclusion that the various modes of indexing compound nouns have an effect on the outcome of HAC.
Electronic records created by Korean Government Agencies in the course of their business activities have been increased rapidly since e-Government had been implemented. With more government business being, conducted electronically, the importance of managing electronic records effectively, appropriately, and trustily has never been greater. For managing electronic records accountably and trustily, it is necessary to develop relevant and detail electronic records management regulation. For that reason, this study is to analyze Korean Acts and Foreign(USA, UK, Canada, Australia) Acts, Regulations, or Policies related to electronic records management and to suggest legislative requirements which could guide to develop regulation or Act of electronic records management.
Digital image technology can be used for the development of new curriculum, course assignment, teaching methods, or the evaluation of library and information science courses. In this way, the teaching course becomes more effective and more interesting. This study has shown that the number of the student registration was increased, the interaction between the instructor and students became more frequent, and the course evaluation by students were very much improved.
To develope a scheme of an efficient archival arrangement and management, this study, through the methodology in France which named ‘archives’ for the first time and produce the best qualified archivistes every year from ENC(Ecole Nationales des Chartes), has started the problem of the adjustment of terminology which must be basically established, the foundation and history of archives, and their kinds and characteristics in the view of periods, contents and materials. After, for the core of an efficient archival arrangement and management, the study goes on theoretical and practical sides: educational courses for archival studies in part, appraisal, selection and collection, arrangement, communication and valorization of archives in other part.
When an institution adopts digital archiving, an economic analysis is required. Though the existing economic analysis considers only tangible benefits, a model to reflect the intangible benefits of digital archiving is needed. This study suggests a comprehensive economic analysis model by applying the value chain concept of information economics. A simulation is conducted on the digital archiving by adopting the concepts of value accelerating and value linking to the economic analysis, and economic factors are derived through sensitivity analysis. The results support the perception that digital archiving contributes to the enhancement of the institution's efficiency.
In this study, we analyze out citing and cited references among researchers, using KSCI (Korean Science Citation Index) database that is developed by KISTI. we generate and analyze that impact factor and immediate index with same method in JCR's. KSCI's impact factor and immediate index compared to JCR's, and with this basis, this study propose the need of development KSCI database and present new service model for evaluate of domestic journals.
Institutional Repository offers integrated capture, management, preservation and access intellectual asset of individual institution and is also considered as a strategy to disseminate and exchange intellectual output as part of global “Knowledge Bank". A case of Institutional Repository, “dCollection," was introduced in Korea Education & Research Information Service(KERIS) as an institutional repository solution. This paper drew related issues in order to apply institutional repository to domestic universities. The results will bring a paradigm shift in scholarly communications, as a guideline of institutional repositories in the university libraries.
